Introduction to Trading

There are 2 main markets for trading; players and consumables. The players market focuses on buying players for a low price and selling them for a higher price to make a tidy profit. The consumables market focuses on contracts, formations and positions with the same principal of buying low and selling high.

Players

When buying players try and focus on getting them with the most popular formations. I found these to be 4-4-2, 4-1-2-1-2 and 4-3-3. The reason for this being that players sell for a higher price at these formations because players are looking to improve their team chemistry.

Consumables

On FUT it is pointless having amazing players if you have no contracts! Without contracts you are unable to use your players. This makes them one of the most popular purchases in the game as no-one wants to leave their players rotting in their reserves when they can be playing with them on the pitch.

Formations we have already covered in terms of players but cards can be just as lucrative as players can find cheaper versions of players and apply a formation to them to match their chosen formation and improve their teams chemistry.

Positions work in the same way as formations as users are looking to improve their team chemistry which improves their players performances on the pitch.

Rules

Rule 1 Be Patient

If a player doesnt sell at a higher amount be patient and dont reduce the price at the first attempt. If after a few days of not selling begin to drop the price but never go below your purchase price.

Rule 2 - Know your margins

Always leave a big enough margin when buying a player to break even if the market suddenly crashes.

For players under 5k buy for 2k or less
Players under 10k buy for 6k or less
Players between 10k and 20k buy for 5k less than their average price
Players above 20k try and leave 10k margin. These players are the biggest risk as their values go down quicker than cheaper players

Rule 3 Timing (Part 1)

When auctioning a player you need to be aware of the most common times that users are on FUT. This is normally between 4pm and 12am. When listing items it may be wise to start an auction at 4pm for 1 hour and if it doesnt sell put it on every hour until about 11pm and then auction it for 12 hours overnight if it still hasnt sold.

Rule 4 Timing (Part 2)

When buying players timing works the other way round. You are more likely to find bargains between the hours of 12am and 6am than you would at peak times on FUT. This works particularly well on auctions as you will have fewer rivals to compete against when battling for cheap cards.

Rule 5 DONT BUY GOLD PACKS OR SPECIAL PACKS

Gold Packs are the biggest waste of coins because the chances of getting a card that you can sell for more than the pack costs are very slim. Before creating this guide, I had lost count of the amount of coins I had lost from buying packs in the hope of getting a big player, now I just use these methods to buy the players outright.

Rule 6 The difference between weekend and weekday prices

It doesnt take a genius to realise that more people are going to play FUT at the weekend than on weekdays so change your prices accordingly. This works very well with consumables as people will need cards more on a weekend as they play on it more so you can normally buy contracts, healing and formation/position cards during the week for a lower market price and then sell them at the weekend for an increased price.

Rule 7 Watch out for the tax!

Dont forget that EA take 5% of the total sale price away from you so be careful buying players with only a small margin as you may not actually make any coins.

Research

In order to be successful when trading on Ultimate Team you have to know how much players sell for in order to make a profit on them. To be able to do that you need to research prior to purchasing the players. There are a few ways to do this which I will explain now.

Database

The quickest way to find the selling price of a player is to use the Ultimate Team Database; a database that tracks sales in ultimate team and tells you the average prices players are selling for depending on formation, position, etc.

[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

The problem with using this website is that I have been on and searched for players and some of the values are incorrect as they will actually sell for more than what the database values them at. When using this site remember that the price is the "Average" price the player will sell for, he can sell for more, sometimes a lot more!

Manual

There are a few different ways to research manually, the first is to search the buy it now maximum for a player and see how many of that player are available, keep dropping the maximum until you get to a price where there is less than half a page of the player and that is the price you should be able to sell them for.

(TIP - During Happy Hours the prices of these players can be deceiving because there are so many of that player on the market. At that time the price may drop for a few hours and then as players are bought again the price will rise back to where it was so pay attention to when the Happy Hours are and also every Wednesday at 6pm GMT which is when Team of the Week is released as these are the times that the most packs are bought so more players will be listed.)

Another way of manual research is to find a player that you want with no buy it now and add 2 or 3 to your watch list, when the auctions end compare how much they went for and you should get an average price of how much the player will sell for.

(TIP - Players without a Buy it Now can often sell for less than their Buy it Now value so when using this research method be sure to watch multiple versions of the player so that you can find an average of how much they go for.)

My preferred method is the Buy it Now manual method because I think it gives a more accurate view of how much you can sell players for.

Now we've got the boring bits over let's make some coins!

Methods

For all of the gold player methods you should search 4-4-2 as it is the most popular formation and players go for more in that formation. 4-1-2-1-2 is also good.

Each method has been rated out of 5 and are in order from highest rated to lowest to make it easier for you to choose which methods you are going to use.

Quick Coins

These methods provide a quick boost in coins and will not make you loads of coins but it is the perfect starting point. I use these methods on another account to supplement my main account.

Gold Player Method

A quick summary of this method:
Set formation to 442 and level to Gold
Set max start price to 1500
Search and bid on popular shiny gold players over 80
Sell for between 2500-3000 coins

This method focuses on the gold players that don't sell for over 5000 coins but that you can still make a profit on. I found this method to be very effective when you don't have the coins to use methods that require more coins. They also tend to sell quicker as they are less expensive hence being able to make coins quickly.

For this method I aim to make 1000 coins per player sold so I set my search criteria to Gold players and set the formation to 4-4-2. This is because 4-4-2 is a popular formation and players will sell for more than in other formations.

Set the maximum start price to 1500. I chose this price because most of the players will sell for 2500 coins so you will make 1000 coins per sale. Some players will sell for more and it is down to you to chose what price you're comfortable with to make profit on, some of you may be happy making 500 coins profit per player, others may want to make 1500 coins or more. If so, adjust your maximum start price accordingly.

(TIP - Mostly bid on shiny gold/rare players as they sell for more than standard gold players)

When searching for the players look at:
Positions - A player in RM is going to sell for more than a player in RW in the 4-4-2 formation
Popular leagues - EPL, Serie A, Liga BBVA, Bundesliga, Ligue 1, Etc.
Popular players - Players that people would want to buy
Pace/Skills - Players with pace and 4*/5* skill will sell for more usually
Public eye - On TV, moved clubs, Injured, Etc. these players may attract attention as people are reminded of them and want to play with them. (For example, Lescott sold for 5000 coins after he scored for England at the Euro's, he usually sells for 2500 coins)

Depending on these factors choose a selling price, either 2500 or 3000 coins is a good start and if after a few days they haven't sold lower the price a little but always be aware of the margin you're making on the player.

TIP - Players from the premier league sell for more than most other leagues)

Two Account method

This method involves the use of a second account, however dont worry if you are an Xbox 360 user, you still dont have to pay for another account as only a silver membership is needed (which is free).

A quick summary of this method:
Make a new team
Discard all the players
List a player on account A for 400-500 coins
Search the player on account B and buy him
Repeat

To do this have account A loaded on web app and account B loaded on console.

First of all on account A, you need to get any card you dont want anymore and list it for between 400-500 coins, its best to do this with either players or kits/badges as with contracts and other consumables it is much more difficult to find the card you listed.

On account B, you need to go to ultimate team on your console and start a new team (You only need a silver XBL account to do this as you won't be playing online) and you'll get a team full of bronze players. You then need to go through all of your players and quick-sell them. This should get you between 400-500 coins.

(TIP - check for consumables also as sometimes you get given a silver contract which quick-sells for 100 coins, do this by selecting apply consumable when selecting a player and then pressing actions and quick-sell)

On account B you need to go to search auction, and search for the original card you put up for sale on account A. Purchase the card on account B and then delete your club by selecting Help => Delete Club.

Wait 30 seconds and then enter ultimate team again (sometimes you get an error message just ignore it and keep trying until it lets you in) and enter your team name and select enter, you will then have a brand new team of bronze players and can repeat the process.

Although it sounds like a lengthy process due to my description it only takes a few minutes each time and is completely risk free, you are guaranteed to make around 500 coins every time.

(TIP - When getting unwanted players if you are going to do this multiple times it is best to buy a cheap bronze pack as the cheapest card you can get on trade would be 200 buy it now or 150 starting price. You can get 12 cards for 400 coins)

Shiny Gold Quick-Sell

A quick summary of this method:
Search through all gold players
Bid on any shiny/rare gold players under 600 coins
Quick-sell or list the players

This method is a very difficult method to perfect because when people get a shiny gold player they don't want they usually discard them if they don't sell for more than 1000 coins. However, if an item has a start price of 150 coins then its open season and there's a chance you'll win the players for under the 600 coins quick-sell price. You will obviously be competing with lots of people as they will know that they quick-sell for a set number of coins. It is a good idea to do this at off-peak times when there aren't that many people online.

(TIP - Do this on the console not the web app as you will waste money on tokens and barely make more than 5k per 100 players you bid on because you're likely to get around 10% of them if you're lucky.)

Big Coins

These are the methods that make you loads of coins as the selling margins are larger. You will need at least 100,000 coins to use these methods effectively, but you may be able to do it with less its entirely up to you.

The In-Form Method

A quick summary of this method:
Find out the latest Team of the Week
Research these players
Custom Search the players bidding on players selling for less than actual price
Hold until there are hardly any on the market
Sell for higher price than you bought for (10k margin)

Every week EA release a team of the week (TOTW). These are known as in-form and are black cards and incredibly rare. EA has now also introduced a range of different coloured cards; Blue cards are Team of the Year cards (TOTY), Orange cards are Man of the Match cards (MOTM) and Purple cards are International Man of the Match Cards (iMOTM).

If you get one of these cards either in a pack or on the trade market you can sell them at a higher price because once team of the week expires you cannot get them in packs and therefore there are only a select number available and eventually someone will want the card and if yours is the only one available then they will have to purchase it from you for the inflated price.

I picked up an 82 TOTY dede for 47,000 coins a few weeks after he was released. I got him whilst searching the gold players method and he was listed at 150 start price and I won the bidding war at 47,000 coins knowing that he sold for over 70,000 coins.

TOTY dede sold for 75k the next day making me a profit of 24,000 coins after tax.

There are two main times that you should buy in-forms:

The first time is as soon as they are released (Every Wednesday 6pm GMT) as they are new and people will want to get them but be sure not to pay too bigger price as if you can't sell them in 1 or 2 days you may take a massive loss on them as prices will quickly go down as more become available
The second time to buy them is in the last few days that the players are available as there are many of them on the market so the price will be lower.

(TIP: When going for a player, think what the maximum you would pay for the player would be and don't go above it. This should ensure that your player sells).

With this method it is best to keep players in your squad for a few weeks whilst people buy up many of the in-forms on the market. You can then release yours on the market when there are fewer players available which allows you to list them for a higher price. If done correctly you can treble what you paid for the player, possibly more.

(TIP - Most in-forms once they are removed from pack will sell for at least 20k. Also if you discard/quick sell a gold in-form you get 10k so watch out if you find and players going for less than 10k because you can make some quick coins.)

Super In-Forms (SIF) are players who have already been in TOTW once and are in it again. Be careful with the standard in-forms of these players as you can think you are getting a great deal when in fact you aren't because there is a SIF version of the player so the in-form value has dropped.

The Pro Players Method

A quick summary of this method:
Create a pool of players of around 20-50 and research their selling values
Set formation to 442 and level to Gold
Search the players in your pool setting a max start price for each one based on how much they sell for (if a player sells for 10k search max 6k)
Bid on players up to your max value
Sell for average selling price

This is the most effective way of making coins on FUT. You need to do some research in order to be successful with this method or you will get caught out bidding on a player that doesn't sell for any more than you bought him for.

Choose between 20-50 players or however many you think you'll be able to remember the prices of and research their selling prices. Once you know the prices of the players, instead of scouring the entire market just custom search the players that you know the prices of, setting a max start price so you can make a profit on them.

(TIP - See Rule 2 for my advice on selling margins)

Alternatively you could universally search the market by setting the formation to 4-4-2 and set to card type to gold and click search. Search through the players and bid for players that you can make a profit on.

This sounds really obvious but if you pay attention and make sure you know how much players really go for you can get ahead of FUT players who are just guess bidding (bidding on players without knowing how much they sell for), this allows you to set your limits ensuring that you will definitely make a profit.

Landon Donovan from Everton is one of the players on my pool of players and I knew the selling price was 9k because he was a striker and in 4-4-2. I managed to pick him up for 1200 coins.

The same day I sold Donovan for 9000 coins making me a 7350 coin profit after tax.

Price Fix

A quick summary of this method:
Search for a player with less than 2 pages of items for sale across all formations
Find the average maximum price
Buy up all players up to the max price starting with Buy it Now
Bid up to the maximum price on all players without a buy it now
List the players either all at once or gradually for 1-2k over what you bought them for (more for in-forms)

This method requires you to have a fair amount of coins already as the process involves purchasing all versions of one card and then gradually releasing them back into the trade market at a higher price than you paid for them. This forces the user to pay your price as there will be no other cards available.

(TIP - Make sure you pick a player that is popular and that people are going to actually want and will pay more for, picking an unpopular player will lead to them not selling)

(TIP - More popular formations will sell quicker than the less popular formations)

Doing this with non in-form cards is very risky as the players are still in packs and the market could flood again leaving you with a tonne of the same player that you can't sell. However if you can manage to sell them quickly as well as buying up any cards that undercut yours you have a good chance of making a good profit.

(TIP - Don't list players that you got for 2k for 20k because they're not going to sell no matter how many of the player you buy unless they are incredibly popular.)

(TIP This works very well with in-form cards as it reduces chances of players getting them in a pack meaning they will have to pay increased price.)

Other Methods

These are the methods that don't fit into either of the above categories but still make you coins. They are your middle of the road methods so to speak.

Card Modification

A quick summary of this method:
Buy a player in a position that doesn't suit formation or in an unpopular formation
Buy a position/formation card and apply to the player
Sell for increased price as they are in popular formation or correct position

Some players will be worth more coins if they have a different position or formation as this affects chemistry. If you can buy a player with a popular formation, 442 or 41212 but with a position that doesnt suit the formation CDM, CAM, CF, RW and LW, you may be able to find a position card that combined with the player costs less than what you would pay for the same player with a common formation and position.

For Example You purchase a Walcott with 442 but is a RW for 1000 coins and then buy a RW->RM card for 1000, you can then sell a Walcott RM with 442 formation for around 7000 coins making 5000 coin profit.

Players with a position that is not available in their formation (RW in a 4-3-1-2 formation) will be available for a lot less than others because they are effectively useless for chemistry.

This method is particularly good with high rated cards or in-forms because they sell for more you can easily find players in a different formation worth less than in a popular formation and apply a formation card to them.

For Example Vidic in 4-4-2 is selling for 60k and there are no Vidic's available for under 50k in 4-4-2 but there is one listed for 45k in a less popular formation, you can buy a 4-4-2 formation card for 4k taking the cost of the player to 49k and you can now sell him in 4-4-2 for 60k making over 10k profit.

59th Minute Rule

A quick summary of this method:
Set search parameters to your max Buy it now
Choose a league to narrow down results
Search and go through to 59 mins
Find players that you think are underpriced and buy them
Sell on for market price

Quite a lot of people already know about this rule already but it is an effective way to get some bargains. Quite simply choose a specific team ideally from EPL, Serie A or Liga BBVA as they are most popular leagues and search through the pages until you get to the cards listed at 59 minutes remaining. Dont forget to set a buy it now to your maximum to narrow down your results.

To refresh the additions simply move back and forth through the pages in between 59 minutes 30 seconds and 1 hour.

By doing this you will find players that newbies or casual FUT players have listed for lower than their average price allowing you to purchase them on the cheap and sell them for a higher price.

IMPORTANT make sure you do your research on how much players go for otherwise this method can backfire.

Bronze player method

A quick summary of this method:
Set level to bronze and set start price to 250 coins
Look for players with 80 pace and above mainly from the English divisions
List the players for 1000 coins buy it now

(TIP - It is a good idea to look how much players sell for before listing them)

Anyone that plays Fifa knows that pace is the main weapon on a team and this is especially the case when building a bronze team as they lack the technical skills that gold players have. People create bronze teams to participate in the lower star tournaments or restricted tournaments that only allow bronze players to be picked.

Therefore when trying to make profit on bronze players it is best to look for players with good pace as they will sell for more. Any player with pace above 80 from any of the English leagues will sell for at least 1000 coins. As a lot of FUT players only buy gold players the bronze market is a lot less competitive and you can get a lot more bargains.

I find it best to search start price 250 coins maximum and bid for any players in any formation with above 80 pace.

(TIP - Beware when bidding for players whose formation doesn't match their position, for example a RM with a 4-3-1-2 formation is probably not a good player to get as people won't want him because there is no place for him.)

If you decide to search for all players beware of unpopular leagues such as Poland and Belgium as although there may be good players with pace but no-one will want to buy them as most people won't have heard of them.

Silver player method

A quick summary of this method:
Set level to silver and set start price to 1000 coins
Look for players with 85 pace and above mainly from the English divisions
Research selling values before listing players

(TIP - It is a good idea to look how much players sell for before listing them)

Silver players tend to be very popular on Ultimate Team due to the tournaments available and also because they can be more fun to play with and are usually cheaper than gold teams. Again, pace and skill are necessity's in creating a good silver team so when selling players look for them to have at least 85 pace. As silver players sell for more look at setting the maximum start price to 1000 coins.

Formations

A quick summary of this method:
Decide which formation you're going to sell
Search the formation setting a max start price
Buy up all formation cards under your max start price
Sell for market value or try and price fix particular formation

Research how much the popular formation cards go for and then try to buy them at a price lower than the average sale price. You wont make you a massive amount of coins but it will get you started.

4-4-2 Formation cards can make anything from 4000-6000 coins
4-1-2-1-2 cards can make anything from 5000-7000 coins.

All other formations will sell for under 3000 coins but any formation with four at the back will sell for 1000 coins +. (4-3-1-2, 4-3-2-1, 4-3-3, 4-2-3-1, 4-2-2-2, 4-4-1-1,
etc.)

Resources

Finally I will give you some good resources to help with building teams and finding players that make coins. I don't own any of these, I found them on the internet.

Futhead

This website is completely free to sign up to and allows you to create prospective teams that you may want to create on ultimate team but you're not sure what there chemistry may be. You can also get your teams rated and rate other players teams.

It also tells you how much a team will cost but some of the estimates are outdated and some of the players don't have prices which kind of misleads you.

5 Star Skill Players

This is a list of 5 star skill players on Fifa, some of them aren't on ultimate team. These players are generally more valuable because they can do all the fancy skills such as the rabona feint and other various skills.

4 Star Skill Players

This is a list of 4 star skill players, again they are all of the players on Fifa so some may not be on ultimate team. These players aren't as valuable as 5 star skill players but they can do tricks that 3 star skill and below players can't do such as the fancy feint (cross-chop) and other good skills.

Top 10's

This is a link to a list of top 10's which displays the top 10 long shot takers, top 5 pace players in every position, top 10 dribblers, etc.
