I heard somewhere that if we were to travel using cars and underground tunnel systems that it would take around 40 Mins to get to Germany (i think) from the UK.

My question is why don't we do this?

I can see the answer being something to do with earthquakes or something?

It would cost a lot of money to do.

could you imagine all the exhaust and sh!t that would coming off your car you wouldnt be able to open a window and if for some reason it was ever to collapse your pretty well done for and they would have to have constant power running to light it up which would cost more money

Yeah true, but wouldn't it be more efficient and a lot safer than using planes?

Planes very rarely crash, and making an underground tunnel would as someone said earlier be VERY expensive and even more dangerous than air travel as of the fumes, danger of collapsing etc

doubt it i got a plane more then a dozen times in the last two years going to british columbia to work and coming back home plane s are perfectly safe the maintenance to keep a underground road going would probably be ridiculous and cost millions they would have to make sure it was safe 100's of times a year an if for some reason a part was about to give out they would have to shut it down to fix it an we would have no way to get around

Its hard enough to build even a simple tunnel.

I see where you are coming from, but we could also use the same system as the Channel Tunnel?

It's still going to cost a lot of money and who is going to fund it?
