Hello Matt here some of you know me as WaW_All_The_Time or even Azoraise if you go back that far!


I am here today to try and explain to everyone on here, well the lack of people left, but I still want you all to understand the difference between different fields of design and what they are and involve also what make a good one and a bad one in my eyes.

So things I will go through for/with you:

- Website Design
- Poster Design
- Logo Design
- Photo Editing
- Photo Manipulation
- Youtube 'graphics'

So lets start with some general things about graphic design, it should never, and I mean never should be called GFX okay this is the name for people who do not design, the randoms, the biggest noobs. WE ARE GRAPHIC DESIGNERS and we do GRAPHIC DESIGN, so have some respect and name it correctly.

You need to be creative and be able to adapt ideas and utilise a range of Photoshops tools, there are a lot of them, some harder to use than others.

Feedback is a big part of design it helps you learn and also to allow you to see things from different points of view or others point of view, it allows you to see mistakes and also it helps you to advance on and get better, especially when someone who is better than you is supplying the feedback to you.

So lets just jump into the the point of this thread.

Website Design

What is a Website Design?

A Website Design is simply the design/mock up of a website, usually the homepage sometimes other pages and even sometimes ever page is designed, this is usually if the site is being developed. Website Design is also a very creative process and involves a lot of thought also it is a very good thing to do, to redesign a existing site can be a very good pass time and fun.

What makes a good Website Design?

A good Website Design is compiled by many things, such as density of the content (how much thing are in there), the colours, the placement and the images used are all very improtant to compile a good web design. You need to think about over all sizes, text, images, and box's (if there are any). So to make a good design for a website you are going to have to get your colours, spacing, balance of things and sizes perfect.

Why are Website Design's made?

There are only really a few reasons they are made, one would be to design a website do a the developer has a reference to go to so they can get things correct and also so clients can have an idea of the product before it is produced. They can also be made for fun to pass some time so you can redesign a site of your favourite game or sports team so on and so forth. The website design can be very useful.

Poster Design

What is a Poster Design?

A poster design is a very big field to cover as you have: film posters, propaganda posters, information posters and many other types of poster that you can cover but most posters are all one thing really, it is a design to grab your attention and pull you in to read more. Posters are usually full of images and information.

What makes a good Poster Design?

A good poster is compiled of a few things: has to be eye grabbing, has to have the correct balances of information and visual aspects such as photos. Most posters are made to make you think even if you just take a quick glance at them they should get you thinking.

Why are Poster Design's made?

Posters are made for all different types of things mainly advertising such as: Film poster to advertise the film, fair/caravel poster to let you know where they are and when also how much and things such as government schemes, not so much now but in the past. Posters are a very good way to get a message around that is why they are so widely used to send many different messages to many people.

Logo Design

What is a Logo Design?

A logo design is the easiest to explain what it is, it is simply a shape or a style of work that is used to represent a person or a company or some sort of community.

What makes a good Logo Design?

A good logo design is something that is associated with your cause or with the name of what you represent, a good logo is simple and memorable but also unique so I can be told apart from other logos of other people, company's or community's.

Why are Logo Design's made?

Logo's are made so people can have an identity as a group of people as well as your own identity the logo shows you are part of something and everyone can realise the logo and see what you work for and so on.

Photo Editing

What is a Photo Edit?

A photo edit is simply a edited version of an image, so even if it has only been brightened and so on it is still a photo edit just a simple one. Photo editing is a very big field due to what is possible.

What makes a good Photo Edit?

A good photo edit is a edit that can improve the image in a visual way and still maintain the quility and the sharpness and if you know what you are doing you can make it seam like these are improved if you have a bad quillity image. A good edit of a photo brings out the main focus and takes the background away a bit more and also makes the photo look more visually appeling.

Why are Photo's Editied?

Photo's are edited for many different reasons depending on who you are what what you do for example if you are a teenager the chances are you are going to be editing a picture for your facebook profile or something simalar. If you are a profesinol photographer and graphic designer you will be editing the picture most likely after a photo shoot and are trying to perfect the people you have just taken pictures of. There are countless scenarios to when photo editing will or has been used.

Photo Manipulation

What is a Photo Manipulation?

A photo manipulation is a compelation of one image or more used to crate a different image all togeather from the original so lets say you take a desert and turn it into mars and the surrounds and it all fits well and look real, that would be a photo manipulation, there are endless posibilites with this technique of design.

What makes a good Photo Manipulation?

A good photo manipulation is made up of many different factors, some those factors being: Lighting, shadows, blending and something that makes sense like having the correct things in a scean. Colours play a very big part in the design of a photo manipulation aswell as the lighting, as if it is not lighted properly the whole scean look incorrect and most things look out of places. So a good photo manipulation has near to eprfect, realistic lighting, colors fit in and good effects to blend things togeather properly.

Why are Photo Manipulation's made?

Photo Manipulation's are made for many different reasons such as: Desktops, To show what you think something may look like in the future and so on there are endless reasons to make photo manipulation's but they are all mostley done for fun!

YouTube Graphics

What is YouTube Graphics?

YouTube graphics are the graphic design that is made for youtube such as Layouts also known as backgrounds, avatars, logos and introductions. These are graphics that are there to allow the youtube communitys channels to look a lot more attractive.

What makes good YouTube graphics?

Good YouTube design is something that has a good rage of colours but blends well is eye catching and out does all the competition.

Why are YouTube graphics's made?

YouTube graphics are made for one reason only really and that is to make channels look more attractive also they can be made for fun.
