I'm planning on getting a macbook pro with a core 2 duo processor and putting an SSD in it to run Xcode off it. I will also install 8GB of ram. Will this be enough to run Xcode 4 i heard core 2 duo is very slow on Xcode 4. Should i just spend the extra cash for the i5?

Ya you'll be fine, but if you just want to make sure then I would go with the 13 inch:

2.8GHz dual-core
Intel Core i7
8GB 1333MHz
750GB 5400-rpm1
Intel HD Graphics 3000
Built-in battery (7 hours)2
