I have had a lot of people asking me lately about what is PING????
Well as you know PC Gaming done on line your connect to a server basically another person's computer that is hosting a match or game. In Battlefeild 3 you have ping And some people say what ping? Well here is an image of me Playing BF3 On my PC.
As you Can See My Ping is 18 This is really good When you look at other peoples 138 ping and i will explain why in a second but normally the better your ping the better you performance is But Different Servers You have different Ping. On other country Servers we Don't Normally get a lot of Ping Because Ping is the amount of time your PC Connects to the Server Or Other person's PC. The Better the Ping the more responsive of what you do is in the game if you shoot before someone and on their screen they were shooting before you this is because of lag between you and the server I had 608 Ping on a server and i was rubberbanding hard i was doing that across the map at random times so the lower your Ping the better the more the Worse. Most People Have Between 1-80 Ping is average some servers will kick you if you don't have enough Ping and sometimes in BF3 You can't Connect because of your Ping. Hope This Helped You Understand Ping This is What i know but could be wrong feel free to throw your 2 Cents in.

Ping is the time it takes a packet to be sent and to be received. Example im BF3 your Ping is 18 right? So when u click it would take 18 Milisenconds from the click to send a packet to the server and it shoots the gun. Like when you have a higher ping you realize when you click it does not automatically shoot thats because it takes time to send a packet. basically the faster internet speed then lower ping (also depends on the server and location).
Btw Ping is in Miliseconds
