I believe you are right, the creator of the world has to share it in order for you to play it when the host is offline, etc. You should ask him.

Host has to put it on a usb (the save) you get the usb of them, then put it on your computer and open it in horizon, then change the id's to yours you can get you id's by copying any savegame from your xbox to usb

Yeah. Have him upload his save to a filesharing website (like megaupload, but that was shut down). Go and download it. Then go to horizon or modio or whatever you prefer and change the profile id on the save to match yours. then put it on your xbox and enjoy.

Alternately, if you trust your friend and you guys can't find a place to upload it to, you can have him download your profile, he can change the id on the save and then add the file to your cloud storage, you can then play it.

How does he share it?

If your friend takes a USB he can take the game save and place it on the USB. Then he puts it on his computer and either links it to you via facebook/other social websites if you know him or a website like megaupload or something. You then download it and place the save onto your harddrive and wellah you can play it.
