Yeah, because computers are definitely not real instruments. Totally.

Totally.

I'm not knocking guitar or anything else, but there's no need to be ignorant.

An instrument is something that you can go on stage and make beautiful and melodic sounds using your own two hands, nothing else helping you. You can do that with a guitar, bass, drums, and hell, even a trash can. The songs your posting just prove my point even further, that this pop BS is ruining the beauty of music. Without the help of lets say, a Mac, or any other computer program, those songs would not exist, rendering the artist who made them obsolete, but see, he NEEDS the computer to make his sounds. The people you posted arent musicians. They're not artists. They're just another link in the chain of computerized crap that eventually will die out. Long live good music. Rock and Roll and Metal will never die.

Now... on topic.

I play guitar. Been playing for some time. I like playing stuff by my favorite bands, which are Chevelle and my all time favorite: Slipknot . I also play some songs by Killswitch Engage, BFMV, Trivium, System of a Down, and Asking Alexandria. Rock on man. hh)

Im also starting to compose my own music as well. Im trying to hint at the lyrical style of Tool, while remaining true to heavy rifts like Chevelle and System of a Down. Im also taking notes on some of the more classical compositions in the minor key like Bach. What are you up to?

You have literally just contradicted yourself. "play with your own two hands" Deadmau5, skrillex etc.. take a mac on stage and use it with their own two hands! Just because you like different music does not mean dubstep, DnB and other computer generated music(or whatever) is sh*t.. fair enough you have your own opinion and that's fine, I respect that but don't rip on other peoples preferred music choice just because you don't like it!

No, actually i didnt. By playing, I mean ACTUALLY PLAYING SOMETHING. Not opening up a file on your computer and playing a bunch of pre-recorded sounds. Mac isnt an instrument. Its a computer. If you can go onstage, with no electricity, nothing helping you out, and play something, your playing an instrument. Deadmau5 and Skrillex require something constantly holding their hand. And this is crap. You call this playing live?

He presses "play" on his computer, presses a button or two, and jumps around. Thats not playing, thats jumping around like a moron. If when he takes his hands off that computer, if the music instantly stopped, THEN he would actually be playing. He obviously isnt, and if you think otherwise, you need to open your eyes. And call me jaded, whatever you want. Ill never give your music respect. Its a disgrace. Theres a reason why there is CLASSIC Rock, CLASSICAL music, because its an art that can never be replicated and takes enormous amount of skill to play, ranging from Mozart and Bach to modern day songs by actual musicians. You little kiddies will never understand the beauty of what music used to be, and now its fading out because musicians just want to take the easy, pre-recorded approach.

I like a few of the bands you listed there, but wholeheartedly disagree with your views on electronic music. What you're calling pop BS is entirely separate from the mainstream. Aphex Twin is widely regarded in the electronic music community as THE best electronic musician to date. His work is beautiful, experimental, and extremely varied. Read about him a little and you'll find he's more than another bedroom DJ, and much of his work I listen to was created before I was born. As I always say, music is timeless. From when he was 11, he was fascinated by the sounds technology could create. He loves music, plain and simple.

Fun fact: This is Skrillex's favorite song. One of mine, too. Not a fan of Skrillex, but I admire him all the same.

Another one of my favorite Aphex Twin tracks is Avril 14th. The man has an incredible mind, as evidenced by the variance in his style from song to song even within the same album. This is the next song in the album. Wonderfully chaotic.

A little background on me. I listen to rock (a broad term), metal (which includes, but is not limited to, death, thrash, math, progressive, and metalcore), classical, drum & bass, limited dubstep, various house sub-genres (like electro, dutch, etc.), post-rock, trance, classic rock, and numerous general electronic sub-genres. I'm trying to get into jazz.
