The only way to get the task manager back is like I stated.

would more say corrupted installation but go for the safe mode route dude then back everything up then relax just clean install dude least you wont lose anything leave it to long if you have a worm / bug you wont be able to do anything but lose it all your call

only way to delete updateds is via the controll panel since he had no desktop doubt he would be able to do anything
task manager : try CTRL + ALT +DEL > start task manager

Trololol you mean edit the registry using regedit.
go to start>run>type "Regedit">press enter.

But if nothing is displaying how would he edit the registry..also he probably would not know what reg keys to delete..deleting the wrong ones can destroy your OS.

Sounds like a virus IMO!
