Okay so I've noticed a lot lately that people who are frankly beginners, misinformed and all round not good at writing code are posting tutorials on HTML, CSS and even some other languages. Now I appreciate you guys trying to help but in reality you're providing people with poor information and are simply going to make it harder for them to understand how to write good code in the future. The simple fact is that if someone wants to learn HTML, CSS or any other programming language for that matter, they are unlikely to do so here when good, well written articles can be found on websites like tizag.com.

tl;dr - You probably suck at what you're teaching and are probably making other people bad at it too.

I agree with you, most of the topics on here are wrong and will send users in the wrong direction. All they want is a sticky but from the crap that they post I cant see it happening.

Enough said.
Every time I see a "tutorial" it's just another random copy&paste that is always incorrect, incomplete and lacking any explanation whatsoever.

Someone should make a tutorial on how to make a tutorial

^^^^
I actually have considered doing this, including ways to format your posts so they are structured well, and how to site sources.

This is true. I would rather learn from an experienced member. Than a member who knows barely little and copy & pastes.

Well i did a Html tutorial. I want to explain to the member how/what html was. It is sometimes hard to explain something, but hope to revise my post.

MyBB wrote Well i did a Html tutorial. I want to explain to the member how/what html was. It is sometimes hard to explain something, but hope to revise my post.

The purpose of a tutorial is to explain and teach something. In order to be able to do that you need to have knowledge of the subject. You need to be experienced. And most important of all: your tutorial has to be 100% correct. As soon as it contains wrongs it defeats the purpose of a tutorial.

Based on the HTML tutorial you posted yesterday, I say you are inexperienced when it comes to HTML. You may have made a "website" once, but that's just not good enough. Imagine a teacher getting hired to teach web-development because he once made a website for his cousin's chess club. Would you like to get class from him, or rather from someone who had years of experience at a professional level that provided a steady income for him.

If you are not experienced, have little knowledge of the subject yourself and/or find it too hard to explain then it might not be a good idea for you to make a tutorial. If you do feel the need to make a tutorial, do research. In your case, a simple Google search would have helped you with setting up a valid HTML document. But you assumed you were right. And you know what they say; assumption is the mother of all f*ck-ups.

Hope this helps.

Perhaps there should be a tutorial section of the forums with different sub sections for different things (God knows there are tutorials for everything on here) with each one having to be approved first. Anyone wanna drop this in the suggestion box?
