The famous MW2 Dedicated Server game hosts have finally shut their servers down due to a Cease and Desist letter on behalf of Activision and other people supporting them. NOT INFINITY WARD!
As we all know, MW2 is on Steam, Games For Windows, Xbox 360, Wii, Playstation 3 and there are cracked versions of the award winning game but! But, on each of the listed above supports for the game none of them have; dedicated servers, lobbies to CHOOSE weather it to be hacked or not and great forums. It was a great past-time for people to go and play... Sitting at home bored or even using up the Work's internet on a serious FPS game! Everyone loved it...even if there was the odd profanity word tossed around due to overpowered guns, hackers or noobs/noob-tubers. But everyone still loved it and it was frustrating for many gamers (like myself) for Activision to take that away from us. Not everyone wants to find a 10th lobby for EVERY game! AlterIW.net had this to say on their homepage

As you've definitely heard, alterIWNet received a Cease and Desist notification from Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp LLP on behalf of Activision Publishing Inc, demanding that we stop our operations due to infringing US and International laws.
It is for this reason that we're shutting down our operation indefinitely. Please refrain from taking any actions on our behalf, such as harassing letters, posts, "denial of service" attacks, telling your grandmother or anything else that you may deem wise. There is nothing more we can do here, unless Activision recognise us as a legitimate modding community.
Thank you all for your continued dedication and contributions to alterIWNet and to PC gaming as a whole.
There are two new communities to continue what alterIWNet started:
FourDeltaOne - NTAuthority's new project which will create IW4M1 for legitimate Steam users (such who own the game) and continue development of GBH2.
alterGaming - Direct continuation of the alterIWNet Community forums, directed at discussion of gaming and other topics, along with development of our own FPS game.

As well all know that means that's the END of AlterIW online! I was playing the game about 1 day ago (as of the 29th March 2012) and i went on today to find error messages for each .exe of the game until i finally thought to google "AlterIW servers down 29 march 2012" and i didn't find anything until i went to AlterIW's home page to find the text shown above. I'm dissapointed in Activision and i wish to refuse to buy any games they publish! I want to know what the head directer of Infinity Ward had to say! If it wasn't for AlterIW the game wouldn't be so popular to this day! Not every gamer wants to be matched up against quickscopers, clans, noob tubers, scammers, Mike Myer message spammers or fake 10th lobby inviting players. It just isn't right to put up with it! I own the game on xbox 360 and i've thought long and hard about selling the game because i finally found AlterIW but now... I'm glad that i didn't but i still want to sell it! Noob-Tubers really let me down on that game! It's pointless that the most common noob-tubers are the 10th prestige people and they've unlocked every gun! Why can't they just use the level at their advantage? Why don't the just use the AK-47 with Fall instead of using a Scar-H/Tube with Artic camo?
