My brother constantly complains about lagg when he uses his computer. It will constantly freeze up and be slow and When he plays games he has to play in the lowest quality. I looked at his computer specs and its no wonder why he laggs. He has a Sempron 140 (2.7 GHz) processor and 3 gb ram. I have taken apart a computer many times and know where everything is located, so I thought I could upgrade him a little. I was thinking about putting a better processor in (quad core), and about 8 gb ram. I was wondering if this is possible because some motherboards dont support that much speed?

Umm your trying to switch an Amd Proseccor with an Intel one. Since they are different companies and use different sockets and remember what video card does he have mabey you want to upgrade that to but i mean the intel hd 2000 and 3000 is quite decent the 3000 can run skyrim on almost all high settings but a dedicated graphics card would be reccomended. for 219.99$ but 189.99 after rebate the MSI N560GTX-TI Twin Frozr II/OC GeForce GTX 560 Ti (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card on Newegg is the card im rocking and its a beast.

Im Afraid, If you want to upgrade to your intel i7 then you would buy either an 1156 or 1155 motherboard depending on witch processor you get.

Also for gaming i would not recommend an i5 2500K for gaming since there is not much difference in gaming from the i7 and the i5 but the i5 is cheaper so save yourself some money

and for the ram just replace all of it dont use different sticks from different companies they most likley will not work.

so its pretty much making a new computer but u can keep your harddrive so all your data is still there..

And i dont know if your even gana read this all

yeah, thanks for your help. ill rep you. so your saying I will most likely not be able to replace an AMD with a intel processor? so what if I just buy a better AMD processor?

also about graphics card? I knew it was important but I didnt know it could reduce lagg. I thought it was there to make graphics look better.

Definately do not switch to an i7. Just think about it, it is like taking a 1995 Honda Civic, and putting in a 2012 Ferari Engine. It is still a 1995 Honda Civic. It is just not worth it.

No it will not be as fast as a ferari. There are other parts in a computer or car for example than a CPU/Engine.
