i am getting a new computer and wondering if this a decent computer.

It ultimately depends on what youre going to do with it. I can't say it is good for a unknown purpose because that may be misleading. It's very basic...meaning it'll run just fine for playing back movies and web browsing, but that is about it. $300 is a very limited budget and isn't goinh to get you very much.
