Introduction


So basically this post will be showing you all basic tutorial's for when you get your Apple IMac or Macbook etc. This guide will help you complete all your basic obstacles along your way to get your mac up and going and when your using it. This topic will show you all useful common command's used for mac that come in helpful.




How To Enter Full Screen (Safari)


Ok so when you get your mac, the safari may not be in full screen so what you want to click is this

Now as you can see you have no dock or tab bar at the top so you cannot view your dock or create a new tab, so if you want to exit it simple press

Ok so you want to view full screen and see your dock, tab bar etc... so you want to hover the edge or top of your web browser, are small arrow icon's will appear, simple drag them to the very top or side and extend your screen to full size.





How to Make a new tab in Safari


So you create a new tab in safari simple click this icon

How to Update Your Mac Software


So this is very simple to find out, click on the following iCon located at the very to of your screen

and straight away you will see this

and you will be prompted with this

Ok as soon as this appear's you will notice the 1st item you can click, which is Software Update

This will clearly tell you if there is any available update currently available for your apple device.

Now when you click software update, this will appear

This will scan your mac for all updates available, then after this process is complete, you will see this screen

Then you can then click Ok if you want to proceed to the update for your Mac.


The next icon below Software update is More Info

After this load's you will see this screen appear with a lot of information about your mac.

Ok now that this is open, you can either click on System Report or check for updates

If you want to see a quick overview of you're mac, you click this

So this will tell you a lot of information about you're mac such as your Hardware, network, sofware.

Display's


Ok how to change your display screen is simple. Same as the last process, you click on the apple icon, about this mac, more info> display and you will arrive at this screen

Now at this screen, it will just tell you basic information about the size and graphic's card that you have.

To change them click this

You will then come to this screen

Here you can change your size, brightness and color.





Storage Information

This is an over view of you're computer hard drive, will show you how much space you have used on Audio, Movies, Photos, Apps, backups and Other.

The Macintosh HD will most likely be your main hardrive and it also tells you how large your hardrive is. as you can see i have a 1TB HDD.

How to find out alot more about your Harddrive click

You will be located to here

And then you want to find out information about your harddrive, click on Macintosh HD and click on this icon located at the top

And when it load's you will see a screen looking similar to this

And the last in that section is Memory were it basically show's you how much RAM you have installed. and you can have upto 16GB on your mac.




Setting's + More


To enter your setting's tab, look on your dock and you will see this icon

And this screen will appear

Ok let's start off with General

Ok in general you can basically change your hight color scroll bars, size of your icon's, and font size.

So you can change them to whatever you want, change font size etc.


DeskTop & ScreenSaver

Ok once you have click this, you will be taken to this page

Here you can pick your own picture as a desktop or use a default one

If you want your backround to change every so often, click this

You click the small box and select your time that you want it to change.


Dock Setting's

That is the dock icon, this is were you can change the location, size, of your dock.

How to change the size of your dock, simply scroll this forward and backward's until you set it to your correct size

To change the position again simply click left, bottom or right

Mission Control


Mission control is an easier way to go about jumping from window to window if they are hard to find.

So click this small icon, that is also located onto the dock and your screen will divide all your tab's into easy to find window's

And now if you want you can jump from tab to tab.

If you want to access these easily, you can set shortcuts like this

As you can see, these are the default short cuts on my IMac, so i have just kept F11 as a quick and easy short cut to get directly to the desktop.


How To Change Keyboard speed + Delete Speed

Once you click this, you will see this

Ok if you want to change the delete speed to can simply scroll this forward back and forward to a reasonable speed.

This will let you test it, once you exit it.. and if its too fast, i would advise to turn it down.


How to Change Apple ID On your Mac/ Add Apple ID

As i have one added, it should say add, then you simply add your account.

I may actually be getting a MAC soon, when I recieve it this is the first place i'm going. Nice thread PLuM, good to see people put time in their threads these days.

Wonderful tutorial, I have an addition for it.
Step 1.
turn on mac.
Step 2.
Insert into large microwave.
Step 3.
Set it for 10 minutes and run
Done.
no really. Macs' have a simple GUI enough, if they need a tutorial to work one they are mentally handicapped. Linux > mac
But still a good tutorial.
