So the work floor below me holds a gaming company which deals with PS3 and Xbox. I got talking with a few of them yesturday when I went out for a smoke and started to talk to him about the XDK's.
You know what game dev's are like, they love talking about this shit and this is possibly the best chance to get an understanding from a professional.

I asked one of the guys yesturday what happens when the XDK's get too old, do they sell them on or what? The guy said: "Each of the xbox's have a serial, the serials expire every few months and we send them back to MS and get a new one in return"

Anyone got questions I can ask what you'd like to know?

TL;DR
Game devs work next to me, they run XDK's and they openly talk about it. What to ask?

Ask them if they can give us the option on buying a retail or a xdk. With this option it gives us n00bs an insight on development, for Educational purpose.

Just to clarify, these guys arn't part of Microsoft they just have full access to the XDK's etc. Already asked them about if they sell them and they have to give them back to Microshaft to get the replacement - which is every 2-4 months when they have to swap them.

Some people think that XDK's can connect to xbox live. I don't believe this and think they can only connect to partner net, which by the way is true. ( There was a thread on this with a huge flame war lol.) I would just like to get a professional opinion.
