Flower

Basic Information:
Developer: ThatGameCompany
Publisher: Sony Computer Entertainment
Date of Release: February 12, 2009
Price: $6.99
Trophies: Gold:1 Silver:2 Bronze:11

Overview:

Flower is quite unlike any other game I have ever played. In the words of developer thatgamecompany, Flower is a "videogame version of a poem, exploiting the tension between urban bustle and natural serenity." While that may sound odd and slightly pretentious, the result is pleasantly innocent and uplifting. Perhaps even more unexpectedly its unqiue qualities shine through and come together to create a fantastic video game.

Gameplay:

First of all, you control the wind using the Sixaxis motion sensor to direct a flower petal on the breeze and you gust forward by holding any of the face buttons. As the petal passes over nearby flowers, they bloom and release their own petals into its wake, which follow you across hills carpeted in delicate swaying wild grass under gorgeous oceans of summer blue. Every new petal from bloomed flowers emits a calming strum or twinkling murmur into the gentle flow of background music and pivotal events are embroidered by the audible rush of wind. It is truly a remarkable thing to behold as the petals begin to take on a life of their own as they journey over the simply stunning landscape. Also, the controls are sublime and it's probably the best use of the SixAxis controls that I've ever seen. They take a bit of time to get used to, but soon you'll find yourself gliding through the levels with ease.

The grass animation and use of sunlight is almost without compare. It almost made me want
to become a gardener.

Certain flowers are held in a translucent circle, and collecting all the petals in a group of these will have a direct effect on their surroundings. The flowers will spread waves of colourful vibrancy over sun-bleached meadows, for example, or will activate wind turbines and lighting beacons at nighttime. Apart from collecting these petals and admiring the awe-inspiring scenery, you will also gust through gullies on occasional, sympathetic rails, sweep through caves and soar from the crests of half-buried obelisks to ascend the walls of canyons and gather far-flung petals. This is how you progress through the game, moving between two or three significant areas in each level and restoring them by inviting their occuping flowers to bloom. After you've bloomed a certain amount of flowers you float into an end-of-level vortex that transports you home to a dusty windowsill in a city apartment. This apartment is where your current level's flower is revitalised by the events you've portrayed in its imagination. To put it simply, it is surreal yet brilliant in its other worldly execution.

Singleplayer:

Flower is a brief, sensuous journey that contains no little than six levels and an ingenious ending credits level. The game isn't much of a challenge (you could finish it in around 3-4 hours) but I think that's besides the point, because by the time a challenge should become in any way relevant you won't care. Flower's gentle pace and expressive visuals have already disarmed you of traditional notions of achievement. The superficially repetitive design is embellished by the game's elegant grace and simplicity to the point that the things you do and see are the unspoken focus of your efforts. Spreading light across a field and gliding through canyons at knee height is empoweringly tactile, and the game is aesthetically coherent down to the smallest detail.

The game is all building up to your visit to the city. I won't spoil anything but it's quite an
interesting and beautiful climax.

Each and every level has its own unqiue atmosphere and theme, which keeps the somewhat simple gameplay fresh. You'll be taken on a journey across all sorts of landscapes and you'll have great fun discovering and exploring them through the viewpoint of your flower.

Technical:
Flower's an absolute technical stunner. The beautifully fitting soundtrack is sensuous and really brings the game to life, with each flower omitting a delicate "Ding" as it's bloomed. I can only imagine the amount of blood, sweat and tears it took to create such a lovely gaming experience. But I can say all of the effort shows and when you consider it's a PSN game, you can't help but be impressed.

The controls make great use of the SixAxis's motion sensing. Perhaps one of the best
examples to date of how it can be used effectively.

The way the petals move through the air is so convincing that it requires almost no consideration, and the silhouettes of industry that lurk in the pitch-black transition between the game's cheerful initiation and the final few levels are like shapes moving in the water. It's just amazing to behold and admire.

Gameplay: 9/10
Excellent controls and gameplay that's so beautiful in its simplicity. Who thought flowers could be so fun?

Singleplayer: 9.5/10
A game that you can get lost in and just play repeatly for the simple pleasure it gives. Remarkable really considering it's a PSN game.

Technical: 10/10
Awesome. Sound production, graphics and animations are all top-notch.

Overall: 9/10 Must Buy

It is, simply, a game where you want to see what happens next, because whatever does happen next will be delicate, beautiful and pleasurable. The sense of immersion is something that I haven't found in many other games. It has all the characteristics of a well-designed videogame, a game that's so amazing to enjoy that it's almost an art form. You can't argue with the designers' motivation to create something new and different, all the while making sure it's still good enough to play without going overboard. The developer's candour and Flower's composition are honest enough to make it clear whether or not the game will appeal to you in seconds. Safe to say, it did to me.

Synopsis;
Metal Slug 3 is a 'run and gun' video game for the Neo-Geo console/arcade platform created by SNK that was released in 2000 and is the sequel to Metal Slug 2. Being the last Metal Slug that SNK was working on until the bankruptcy, it was given a lot of features, enhancements and improvements. The music of the game was developed by Noise Factory.

Game Information;

Release date(s): Neo-Geo - June 1, 2000
Other Platform's -June 19, 2003
Developer: SNK
Publisher: SNK
Platform: Arcade, Neo Geo, PlayStation 2, Xbox, Xbox 360 (XBLA)
Genre: Run and gun
Players: 1-2
Age Rating: 12+
IGN Rating: 7.2/10
My Rating: 8.1/10

Setting;
The rebellion by General Morden to bring about a new global regime is now history, and peace has begun to return to the world. Morden who was brought back into power, was attempting another strike, but government forces got intel of the plot and planned a retaliation against the General.
The government sends in some of their best elite troops to handle the job, you are one of the elite troops you can choose from Marco, Tarma and 2 other members from the Peregrine Falcon Strike Force.

Gameplay;
Throughout the game you travel vast area's from under the pacific ocean to Egypt finishing off in space fighting off aliens.
Within the game there are multiple choices to be made such as whether to go through a mysterious tunnel of straight into a mystical forest, both options can either improve your score and gameplay or do nothing and make the mission even longer but either way you will get to the end and face a boss.
There are a wide selection of weapons and vehicles to find within the missions such as a Heavy Machine, Flamethrower, Rocket Launcher and more chaotic weapons which can be found by killing an enemy or hiding within the map and they look like a square with the first letter of the weapon inside it.

Graphics;
The graphics are fairly basic but yet effective in a way, this game was originally released on the Arcade Machine back in the day so most graphics back then were rubbish but treasured and amazed.
I wouldn't get too fooled by the front cover art as it is entirely different when you play the game out.

Overall i would rate them 7.3/10

Extra's

Fat Island - You cannot play this game mode until you have completed the arcade/story mode.

In this game you can choose either 'Single Training' or 'Two-Player Contest', on both game types the player who eats the most and gets fatter wins.

Storm the UFO Mother Ship - You cannot play this game mode until you have completed the arcade/story mode.

In this game mode you get another more in depth run of storming the mother ship, rescue your captured conrades for them to then aid you in your assault you get three different squad members which and 'General Infantry', 'Bazooka Soldier' and a 'Shield Soldier'.

Controls;
As this was initially designed for the Arcade Machine they had to keep them fairly simple but as this game was released onto further platforms they added a few more features but they still haven't added more actions to the available buttons.
They are still very easy to adapt to as the game only consists of around 7 buttons to use which are the simple side scroll aim, jump, reload and shoot.

Stuntman

[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Developer: Reflections Interactive
Publisher: Infogrames/Atari
Release: September 6, 2002
Platform: Playstation, Gameboy, mobile
Genre: Racing/Action

Synopsis

The game focuses around the career of a motion-picture stuntman. It takes the player through various movies in which they perform dangerous stunts as called by the game.

The career mode allows the player to participate in six films, each filmed in a different location and in a different genre. Toothless in Wapping is a gangster film made in London and resembles Snatchs and Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels. A Whoopin' and a Hollerin' is inspired by Dukes of Hazzard set in rural Louisiana. Blood Oath is filmed in Bangkok and is inspired by John Woo-films. Conspiracy is a Tom Clancy-type thriller where the player uses a snowmobile in Switzerland. The Scarab of Lost Souls is based on the Indiana Jones films where the player uses a jeep and troop carrier in Egypt. Live Twice for Tomorrow is a parody of James Bond where the player uses sports cars in Monaco. Between films, the player must perform stunts in front of crowds.

Graphics

The graphics for this game aren't too bad, but it was released in 2002, so come on, they can't be too good, i overall like these graphics and think others will too, the only bad thing about the graphics is the characters, they look like cardboard and it lets the game down, but you don't see much characters in the game so it's all good!

Controls

Very simple controls, x to accelerate, square to brake, left & right on dpad to move car left & right, and right analog to change camera positions, this all has my liking, and is very simple to use

Levels

The levels in stuntman are really good, they all follow on and are really motivating, i.e. one level you have to get to the end and park your car in a perfect position or back to front (may be harder) and then the next one will carry on with that level, but be a different objective, i.e. hitting an opponents car into the water, so you then complete that level.

The next thing i love about the levels is that you can create your own level, i love this feature and i used to create my own levels and play them with my friends all the time! if you love making stuff then this game will also be good for you!

Overall

Overall this was one of my favourite games when i was atleast 9, i used to never get bored and if i ever wanted to be creative i would just create my own map, and me & my friend would try to complete it, and then he would make one and we would do the same process over & over again. i reccomend this game, it's amazing, and i think you will enjoy it!

Graphics

The toon graphics in this game are great for what they're needed for, the good thing is that the game doesn't need to rely on the graphics to be good, which is awesome i think.

Controls

The controls are very simple, you get a controller with the game, it has 4 colours (for 4 questions) and 1 big red button, which is used to submit your answer or it is the "use" button, i love this controller as it fits perfectly in your hand and is the right size, perfect for people who don't like the shape of normal controllers!

Levels

There isn't levels as such in this game, but there are variety of questions, followed along with an unlockable which you achieve when you get a question right, such as throwing a pie at your friends face, or dropping a bucket of liquid on their head, something simple. You may say it does have levels as you can choose the topic, but that's for you to decide.

Destroy All Humans! 2

[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Developer: Pandemic Studios
Publisher: THQ
Release: October 27, 2006
Platform: Playstation, xbox
Genre: Action

Synopsis

Destroy All Humans! 2 takes the irreverent Sci-Fi action gaming experience into the swinging sixties with all new game features, expanded open-world gameplay and co-op multiplayer. Assuming the role of the Furon Scout - Crypto 137 - players will embark on another mission to earth to take on the world of free love, the Cold War and other 60's era icons. In Destroy All Humans! 2 Players have access to an upgraded arsenal of weapons and enhanced mental abilities while they battle a variety of new enemies from secret agents and giant creatures to Soviet Forces and ninja warriors.

Graphics

Graphics in this game are not bad considering the game was made in 2006, and back then the graphics for any game weren't great, i would argue that most of the little padestrians that run past look stupid, but that isn't what this game is about, also i think that if you love action games, then the graphics won't bother you too much in this game, so i think if you buy this game you won't be dissapointed too much about these graphics and that you will enjoy it.

Controls

The controls in this game are very hard to get used too, when you first get the game you have no idea on how to do anything, and it took me ages to get used to the controls, but i guess you will get the instructions manual to take a look at all the controls, the reason why it's so complicated is that you can do many things in this game such as controlling other people, flying UFO's and firing weapons also picking people up etc.. i could go on for ages.

Levels

The levels are great in this game, to be honest i think this used to be my favorite game for levels as they're so fun and you have so much to do! people may disagree though, but that isn't my point, anyway if you like doing missions non-stop then this game should be a great buy for you guys!

Overall

Overall i love this game, as stupid as it sounds i used to play this game alot as a kid, it has fun that never ends and there is always something to accomplish/complete and you can control the city's that you bump into which i think is great, and you can fly in your UFO causing mass destruction whenever you want, i simply adored this game as a kid.

The Getaway : Black Monday

Developer: SCEE
Publisher: SCEE
Release: November 12, 2004
Platform: Playstation
Genre: Action

Synopsis

Explore over 40 square kilometres of stunningly real London streets, including Trafalgar Square, Oxford Street and the Thames Embankment, all closely recreated from photographs and video footage of the areas. As the dark tale of London gangland unfolds, you'll explore the four corners of England's capital on foot and in a variety of vehicles, including Police motorbikes, Smart cars and the iconic red double-decker buses.

Three London lives are about to collide in a cloud of violence, intrigue and murder. It's the first day on the job for Sergeant Mitchell, newly recruited to the Metropolitan Police's firearms division. When a dawn raid on an East London council estate turns nasty, it sets in motion a chain of deadly events that will see Mitch up against the most powerful man in London.

Graphics

Graphics, the graphics in this game are simply amazing when playing it, think of this game as a mini-version of Grand Theft Auto, going around the streets stealing cars, bikes while killing people and achieving whatever you like, these graphics won't let you down for sure!

Controls

Controls are simple, x to drive, left analog to walk, square to brake, i think it's circle to shoot, or r1 and r2 to aim, x to sprint, and you will work out the rest. I think the controls are the same as any other game and are really easy to understand and get used to them.

Levels

Levels in this game are really outstanding, basically all the same as grand theft auto, killing gangs, overtaking their turfs etc, but this game is really good for missions, i remember playing a mission where you have to save people from a house fire, going into the house and rescuing about 6 people, and then chasing the guy who comitted the crime, i personally thought that was my favorite mission and i hope you get to play it too!

Overall

Overall this was one of my most favorite games until Grand Theft Auto came out because in this game you could do anything, explore, kill, steal, live your dreams basically, and while doing all that you earn a lot of respect in the city's and become popular, i hope you will buy this game if you ever get the chance to and experience the whole game play yourself, i think this game is one of the first playstation games to be fully successful.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 Review

Release Date: October 31st 2005
Developers: Pandemic Studios, Savage Entertainment
Publishers: LucasArts
Platforms: PS2,PSP,PC,Xbox
Genre: Action, Shooter
Players: 1-2 Players
Rating: 9/10

Synopsis

Unlike its predecessor, Battlefront II features a more narrative-based campaign, retelling portions of the Star Wars story from the point of view of a veteran Imperial stormtrooper, reminiscing about his tour of duty in service of both the Galactic Republic and as part of the Galactic Empire. Gameplay additions over Battlefront include the use of Jedi, additional game modes, and objective-based space battles.

Story

Star Wars battlefront 2 takes place in 2 era's, Galactic civil war and the clone wars. In the game you are fighting as either the clones containing storm stoopers or the rebellion with the human fighters. You are fighting to keep control of the planets being taken over in the wars.

Gameplay Single Player + Multiplayer

The star Wars Battlefront 2 gameplay is extremely exciting and action packed. Both single and multiplayer provide alot of replay value. both single player and multiplayer have good balanced gameplay between the players who would prefer to run and gun and the player who would prefer to sit back and snipe. The single player mode contains alot of ojective based game modes such as galactic conquest where the mission is to take over the universe. The game also contains a variety of vehicles to use that will spark up the atmosphere in the battlefield.

Graphics

Taking in that this game is based primarily for the PlayStation 2 and PC, The graphics on this game are very good and provide sharp crisp objects and nice looking high resolution textures. The gameplay mechanics on this game are also extremely well engineered, The game has smooth transitions and has a decent FPS for a game in this era.

Controls

Personally when I played this along time ago I thought that the controls on the game were perfect on it. Similar to call of duty, but instead the front buttons are the ones to fire which provides quick reflexes to shoot. These are all easy to get used to but if they are troubling you, they are changeable in the options menu.

Guys, I'm not trying to mini-mod in any way or whatever but before you write a review, check this link:

Game Checker

It pains me to see a really good written review and then someone telling them it's already been written before by someone else. I've seen this a few times and thought I'd give you guys a heads up.

Also, I know there's a sticky on it but it's obviously not working as a lot of people are posting reviews that have already been done before. So please, I'm just trying to save you some time.
