Civil War: A Nation Divided Review

[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Publisher: Activision ( In conjunction with The History Channel )
Rating: T
Genre: First Person Shooter

Synopsis

In Civil War: A Nation Divided, you are thrown onto the front lines of the American Civil War. You have the option to play as a soldier from the South ( Confederacy ) or the North ( Union ) and experience some of the United States most bloody battles. Fight along side your fellow soldiers in famous battles like Gettysburg, Bull Run, and Antietam. During the Civil War, it could have been fathers fighting sons, neighbors fighting neighbors. It's your choice to decide which side you want to fight for.

Gmaeplay

Gameplay in Civil War is sub-par. The missions lack any bit of finesse at all, and there is nothing that makes the game stand out. There are numerous glitches that occur, like falling through the map, and my favorite one... randomly dying out of nowhere. The guns also feel like toys. They lack any bit of weight whatsoever, so even if your firing a really powerful weapon, you really do not get that feeling at all. The only redeeming part about the gameplay is that its fun to play at famous battles like Gettysburg, and thats the only good thing about the gameplay.

Graphics

Graphics in Civil War are really, really bad. I've never played a game on the 360 with so many texture pop ins-and-outs. The character models are terrible. There is no differentiation between character models either. You see the exact same guy at least eight times a mission. The buildings have patches in them that really do not look good at all. If you are looking for a game with good graphics, this is 100% not the game.

Sound

Sound in Civil War might be the only redeeming factor in the whole game besides the famous Battles. When there are many soldiers around you firing a musket, you hear each individual shot. The sound doesnt get muffled and lose its bass and feel to it. Cannons sound powerful and the battle cry's of hundreds of soldiers charging each other with bayonets sounds pretty good.

Controls

Controls in Civil War are pretty much a Call of Duty clone. Imagine all the controls for CoD and thats basically what your using to play Civil War, so the controls are pretty good.

Civil War: A Nation divided is bad. Thats all there is to it. Its not beautiful, its buggy, and is just boring.

5/10

The Sly Collection
Developer(s):Sucker Punch Productions,Sanzaru Games
Platform(s):PlayStation 3
Release date(s)November 9, 2010

Synopsis: Sly and the gang are back! Experience the classic award winning trilogy, Remastered in 720P High Definition on your playstation 3 system.

Gameplay: The gameplay of the sly collection is smooth and overall impressive. Never once throughout playing all 3 games did i feel bored nor disconnected.all 3 games provide a innovative story followed by unique missions and bosses making it one hell of a game.

Graphics: Sanzaru Games did a astonishing job at remastering the trilogy in HD. All the textures have been improved and made to look beautiful on the ps3. Although they aren't revolutionary graphics, they are still quite beautiful considering the fact that it looked phenomenal in its original ps2 form.

Controls: With this being a platformer, I was have a fear of clunky and sloppy controls, however, This game doesn't disappoint. All of the controls play out smoothly and are easy to pick up, making this a go-to game for everyone.

Replay Value: This Game will be sucking out many hours of your life. With each game taking 8-10 hours to fully complete, there is no doubt that you're gonna be hooked for quite sometime

THE VERDICT/OVERALL: This game is a great childhood freshener and also a great way for people to experience the classic ps2 games of sony's mascots. It is a truly a great and fun game and for what its worth ($29.99), it's definetly worth picking up.

9.5/10

Game Information
Release Date: January 26, 2009
Developed By: Blue Castle Games, 2K Sports
Genre: Sports
Platform: Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360
Rating: E

Synopsis:

MLB Front Office Manager is an American Baseball game featuring all of the Major League Baseball teams. The game however is not played from the perspective of the players, but from the perspective of the coach/manager. Most people who play sports game prefer the player perspective, making this game the first of its kind and one of the least popular. Over the 30-year career of your GM, you will be judged on 8 things: North American scouting, international scouting, pro-league scouting, player development, trades, contract negotiation, and owner confidence and leadership. The game uses the SABR stat system, and keeps track of small things over time such as pitcher vs. batter history.

Multiplayer:

The idea of the multiplayer have up to 30 GMs and having a long competition was original and creative, but it was not played out well. There was lots of lag at times, and some games would quit on you. The game was not maintained well and was not followed up on as it should have been.

Graphics Rating:

For the time that the game was released, the graphics were disappointing. The players were very pixilated at times and seemed blocky without smooth edges. Graphics receives a 4.5/10

Multiplayer Rating:

The games multiplayer was well planned but poorly designed and maintained. If the game would have received better post release support, it would have scored higher, however it ended up awful. Multiplayer receives 4/10

Overall Rating:

The game was a poor game. It was not planned well and the audience it was focused on did not even like the game. This game was not what it could have or should have been. It receives a 4/10

Recommendation:

I would not recommend anyone to buy this game, as it most likely would not be the game they were expecting. Unless you are given this game for free, there is no point in owning the game.

Game: Metro 2033

Developers: 4A Games Publishers: THQ

Platforms: Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360

Genre: Survival Horror, First person shooters

Players: 1

Rating: ESRB: M, OFLC: MA15+, PEGI: 16, USK: 18

Synopsis:
The game takes place in post-apocalyptic Russia, and follows a 20 year old male survivor named Artyom (Russian: ). When the game begins, Artyom learns from an elite soldier, or Ranger, named Hunter that a group of mysterious creatures referred to as the Dark Ones are threatening his station in the Metro. Hunter gives Artyom a Ranger token and tells him if he does not come back, he must go to Polis to see if they will help his station.
Artyom must travel through territory occupied by Soviets and Nazis, and infested with mutants. Once in Polis, he meets with a Ranger named Miller, who agrees to help him. Miller knows of a missile silo known as D6 that has the firepower necessary to destroy the Dark Ones. Artyom, Miller, and several other Rangers reactivate the command center for the missiles, and Artyom installs a laser guidance system on a nearby building. After the laser system is installed, Artyom experiences a vivid hallucination induced by the Dark Ones.
After the hallucination, two endings are possible, depending on choices the player makes throughout the game. In the normal/bad ending, Artyom allows the missiles to fire, destroying the Dark Ones. The alternate/good ending gives Artyom the choice to destroy the laser guidance device, citing a last-minute realization that the Dark Ones were actually attempting to make peaceful contact through the hallucinations.

Gameplay
The character you play as is a 20 year old male named Artyom. The settings of the game is a post-apocalyptic version of Moscow. Most of the game is taken place in an underground metro system. Some of the missions do require going onto the surface, which is a frozen and dangerous place to go. When going to the surface, a gasmask is required, along with air filters. The weapons used in this game are a variety of weapons, and ammo is very scarce in this game. Pre-apocalypse military-grade ammunition is used a currency in this game, instead of dollars or coins. The ammunition used for guns is a lower quality of bullets that are made within the metro. The Pre-apocalypse military-grade ammunition can be used to buy other weapons, or even more low grade ammunition. Do to the rarity of ammo, scavenging is an important feature in this game. You can search dead bodies, and the environment in the hope of finding ammo or other items essential to your survival. The health in this game is on a recharging health system, meaning after the user has taken damage, if they get to cover, health will recharge back to normal. There are no health bars in the game, they way to know when damage is being taken is the screen will start flashing read, you will hear heartbeat sounds, and blood will be on the screen. You can use a medkit in order to speed up the healing process, if needed.

Enemies
While there a lot of enemies in this game, it breaks down into these 3 main groups. All weapons can be used against the enemies.
Mutants
Mutants are deformed creatures, who have evolved from normal animals due to large amounts of radiation. All mutants will attack and attempt to kill you. They are often strong, intelligent, and travel in packs. They are the main enemy you encounter through the game. They do not use weapons other than their own bodies.
Humans
Not all humans are on agreeing terms, and while some of them help you and just plain ignore you, there are a few groups that will attack you. The Nazi's and Bandits are groups that attempt to kill you. You encounter these enemies in a few different levels. They use guns in order to hurt you.
Supernatural Phenomenon
While this group is less of a threat than the others, it can still be a bother. Ghosts can sometimes hurts you, but most the time they are easy enough to bypass. The other in this category are anomalies, which will destroy everything in it's path. While they are very easy to dodge, if it hits it will be fatal.

Graphics
They graphics in this game helps add to the horror and thrill of the storyline. The setting is often in the dark tunnels of the metro system. Strange noises frequent throughout the game, in order to add the suspenseful feel of the game. When you emerge to the surface, you are met with a breathtaking view of the world. The graphics, while beautiful, depict a broken and lost world, adding to the sense of desperation this game instills into the player.

Downloadable Content
The only DLC for this game is the "Ranger Pack". It's a mini-DLC for the game, including 2 new weapons(Volt driver, Heavy automatic shotgun) and 2 new difficulties(Ranger Easy, Ranger Hardcore). It's add new achievements, and cost 240 Microsoft points, and is free on PC.

My Overall Opinion
My overall opinion of Metro 2033 is that it's one of the best games I have ever played. If you enjoy survival horrors, this is the game for you. A wonderful story line that involves suspense, grief, excitement, and even an alternative ending if played a certain way. It has a great interface, graphics, and thrill that truly puts you in the spot of Artyom. I honestly have no complaints of this game, only good things to say about it. I have beaten in numerous times, each time as fun as the last.

Overall Score in my mind
9.5/10

Story Mode

Story mode is nothing but war strategy and a few cutseans. The story line is the same as online but it is AIs than players. The story line is not that long and can get it done in around 5 hours if that. The story plot is not very good just general war nothing that good happens with it just alot of news seans. Not that good of a story line.

Online

Online is very nice and it does take skill to win. The lag was moderate when I was playing it. Online is just like the story mode but it has a little lag. There is no underhanded ways to win and relly nothing you can do is noob.
