When I first started the game, I got the impression that the Stormcloaks were just some idiots that gathered together to make everyone's lives hell. I still believe that but made a second character to try out the Stormcloak's civil war quest line.
I guess my question is this, did anyone actually get the impression when they first started playing the game that the stormcloaks were actually good people instead of just king killers?

i realized that the stormcloacks were good (im a nord) after i beat the imperial quest line.

not really a big fan of the stormcloaks. In this case, rebelling over not being able to worship Talos and the fact that the Aldmeri Dominion is in Skyrim is kind of lame.

I got the impression that the Storm Cloaks were the good guys and Imperials were the bad guys. Why? Because they put me on the chopping block for no reason. I haven't done the Civil War questline yet and I've had the game since it came out. Since I've done mostly all the factions, I might give it a shot. Going to go Storm Cloaks.
One question. By going Storm Cloaks, is it true that Ulfric teaches you some shouts or something? I read somewhere how he knows the way of the shout and he teaches you something. Not sure if its true or not. Can anyone give me an idea of what Ulfric teaches you and what benefits you get for joining Storm Cloaks?

I intiially wanted to join the stormcloaks, as i was a bit pissed off for nearly getting executed. I went to see ulfric in his palace, but he wouldnt give me the time of day. So i shot him in the head and joined the imperials. I value manners.

It's probably because the game starts and it wants you to go with the imperials
Along the way of the game you come to understand why the stormcloaks were made
