Hey guys so I updated my Xbox yesterday to find today that my Xbox has RROD, it has 3 Lights, one is the Top Left Quadrant and in the Two Bottom Quadrants. Has anyone else had this and if not must just be a coincidence, I have had my 360 for 5 and a half years now so it has had a good life and has seen many good titles

Let me know if any of you have had this so we know if its something to do with the update or not

Hello iKingyx. I also had the same issue happen with my 5 1/2 year old Xbox 360 that experienced a similar flashing red ring pattern after updating my console to the latest dashboard on December 15th. This console doesn't have 200 hours of play on it so am worried why all of a sudden an update caused this issue.

Maybe the xbox can't handle the update?

If it still has the warranty you can find out by taking off the faceplate and if there's a stick to the left of the power button you do! If you still do send it into Microsoft and they will either fix or send you a new one free of charge

this is ridiculous ive had my 360 4 years and its clearly out of warrenty it was working fine till that update came around, for some miracle it managed to work again after i unplugged everything but as soon as it came on and asked for the update i clicked ok then this loud beeping sound from the console happened and the screen went black, i dont see why i should have to pay to get this fixed when its clearly microsoft's fault on this, fair enough if it only happened once but the fact the exact same thing has happened twice has just proven to me that it is the dashboard update causing the damage

Had exactly the same thing happen to me. Updated my Elite and had the menu freeze. I restarted and got 3 Flashing Lights (RROD). Been looking into this and quite a few people with the fat models affected:

There's also a Facebook page for it:

Pretty bad of Microsoft not to fess up as to the cause.

Three red lights is a general hardware failure, not one issue. Just get's blown way out of proportion, because one error indicator is the indicator for any hardware failure within the system. If your console is years old, and you were able to and chose not to extend the warranty, stop whining. All electronics fail at some point. Anything covered by a warranty fails at some point. Do you take in your out of warranty vehicle and demand a free repair? The update did not cause your failure, it just brought it to your attention.

Okay, I could accept this point of view if not for the fact that prior to the update I had a perfectly happy, functioning, working Xbox and then immediately seconds following the update it froze and then had RROD on reboot. Bitter experience of Xbox updates even made me hold off updating for a few weeks in case this happened as it did to customers during the Fall update. You're surely going to tell me the failure is pure coincidence? You don't work for MS customer support by any chance do you?

Try to clear the update if it didnt download correctly:

Hold the Sync button, while holding it turn on your console and it should boot up.

This might not work but I haven't tried it.
