Advice
I'd definitely start watching YouTube tutorials, just some basic tips at first. Until you get used to Photoshop, and learn what the tools can be used for.
Something that's very interesting to me is Forum signatures. Try those out. You can really expand your creativity in those.
Doing some cheesy .gif don't help you out at all. Trust me. I mean there are some really good .gif, but they have to be made extremely well. And your not there yet, neither am i though. Not many people can make a .gif look halfway decent. They just look very very unprofessional. Yeah they're fun, but don't necessarily look good.
