You can't really make a decent gaming computer with that much. It will be very low end and not be able to handle new games at all.

Why do you keep saying that to people with that budget? You do realize you're extremely wrong in every single way? Yeah, a $500 build is not going to include any peripherals, but that's completely unrealistic.

Build IS a bit over your budget, but if you want, you could go the AMD route with a low end AM3+ board and save around $60. Since deals around this year are insane, I'd jump on a build quick - NCIX has awesome deals ( you could probably build an entire PC from deals on their home page ).

I say that's too low of a budget because I like to include everything they need. He will probably need a new HDD, and depending on the size that's another $100-$200 right now. He may also need a monitor, keyboard, mouse, OS, or other accessories like a wireless adapter. Obviously he will probably not need all of these things, but more likely then not he will need a new HDD at least. So yeah, I don't think $530 is enough for a nice gaming PC. That's just my opinion.

Let me make this simple, there is a difference between a bare bones gaming PC and accessories. Why you don't want him re-using his current HDD? ( FYI there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with that ) and torrenting his O/S in the meantime. Most people I know have TV's, and keyboards are $10 so I wouldn't sweat it. Saying it can't be done is utter bullshit. Even if he had twice the budget, I'd still not include an O/S and HDD because there are less favorable alternative options that do work well for the end user in the long run.

I never said it can't be done. I said it won't be that good. In my opinion it is a better idea to wait until you can buy the parts you want instead of spending money on a low end PC and then upgrading it a lot in the future, that's all.
