Packet Loss:

Much as it sounds, if you have anything less than complete success in transmitting and receiving "packets" of data then you are experiencing this problem with your Internet connection. It can mean much slower download and upload speeds, poor quality VoIP audio, pauses with streaming media and what seems like time warping in games -- your connection may even come to a total standstill! Packet loss is a metric where anything greater than 0% should cause concern.


Ping:

Ping refers to the time it takes for information you key in, ya know like when you click to fire a gun or jump or anything like that, and the time that action takes to travel from your computer to the games server and back to everyone else in the match so that what you do shows up for them. A low ping is always better.

Example: You're playing a first person shooter online. You see some guy running one way or the other in front of you. You aim RIGHT at the guy and shoot, but have a low ping. Your shots may register behind him as he's running to one side or the other.

In that same situation with a lower ping your shots would have been able to register right on him and you would have killed him instead of shooting "behind" him and giving away your position, probably leading to him killing you. lol


What should your Ping be?
Less than 20: An Amazing connection!
Around 50: Good connection
Around 100: Ok connection
150 and above: You should call your isp and change your plan lol or close all internet related thing in your house


Having 0 Ping, although I think it's impossible, would be like playing campagin (In terms of the the time it take to register information)




Jitter:

Once you understand ping, jitter should also make sense. Jitter is merely the variance in measuring successive ping tests. Zero jitter means the results were exactly the same every time, and anything above zero is the amount by which they varied. Like the other quality measurements, a lower jitter value is better. And while some jitter should be expected over the Internet, having it be a small fraction of the ping result is ideal.
