How To Beat The TzHaar Fight Caves

Please Note This Is Not My Tutorial
Please Leave Me Some Feedback.

I Noticed Alot Of Topics About TzTok-Jad So I Decided To Share This.

1 - Introduction

On October 4th, 2005 JaGex updated RuneScape with the toughest activity to date. This is known as the TzHaar Fight Caves. When it was first released, not even the best RuneScape players could raid through the Fight Caves. It took many days of putting ideas together to figure out how to beat the final boss of these caves, the TzTok-Jad. In this guide you will learn how to raid your way through the caves, kill over one hundred monsters, to reach and defeat the TzTok-Jad.

2 - Location & Interface

The Fight Cave can be found deep within Karamja volcano, at the base of the rope.

[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Enter this cave to find yourself within the TzHaar area, shown on the map below. (You are at the green arrow - Entrance) Head west toward the Fight Pits to a location marked "Fight Caves" with a Minigame icon, and a Bank just north of this location.

[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Once you reach the Fight Caves area, you can use the northern bank to prepare your equipment for the long battle ahead, or if you've already come fully prepared; Simply enter the cave south of the bank to start the Minigame.

Below is a map of the Entire Fight Cave, with a brief reference to where you should stand once you reach TzTok-Jad.

The activity takes place in the map above. While playing, you are alone and can not summon familiars.

3 - Requirements

There are no basic requirements set down by JaGex to do this activity, though if you want to get all the way to the end, you'll need to follow the minimum suggested requirements:

60+ Prayer
75+ Ranged
Note: It is very possible to complete the Fight caves with 70 Ranged, though having a higher Ranged and Prayer level will be to your advantage. The higher your Ranged level, the faster you will complete this activity. The Fight Caves can take as little as 1 hour, and as much time as 3 hours to defeat all monsters and complete all 64 waves.

High levels aren't the only thing this activity asks of you to be able to beat it. You will also need to have access to a large sum of money or friends who are willing to help you out. If you are unable to spend a lot of time, money, or unable to borrow some items from trusted friends, we suggest that you don't attempt to complete this activity. It may also help to lower your graphics settings to reduce lag, since on the last wave every second counts towards your victory or defeat.

4 - Game Play

Once you have the recommended equipment and stats (or your preferred equipment), head over to the Fight Caves and go into the bank. Once there, it is recommend that you drink one dose of a super set, and withdraw the other suggested items for your inventory. When you're ready, speak to TzHaar-Mej-Jal and he'll let you enter the caves. He can be found under the mini game icon across the road from the bank.

Once you have entered the cave, head directly to the middle and wait for the first monster to start attacking you. The first monster you will encounter is a Tz-Kih (level-22); beware, as this monster will drain your Prayer every time it attacks you (even if it doesn't hit). Also, ensure that you kill this monster first, no matter what wave of attacks you are on. You will need to remember this for battles later on against the Ket-Zek (level-360).

Once you have killed all the monsters in one wave, another wave will start up. This time, it will appear with the same, and stronger monsters, although more than before. This cycle continues all the way up to the TzTok-Jad (level-702).

5 - Suggested Equipment

Pure Setup
If you have decided you have enough time and money to spend on the Fight caves, and are going to go through with it on a low level pure account, this is the suggested inventory setup which you should take with you..

Note: Purple sweets and Biscuits obtained from clue scrolls can be used as a one space healing item.
The inventory and equipment setups can vary with different pure types. The inventory shown above is for that of an account which has very low Defence level, so is designed for level 1 Defence pures. The setup shown uses Recipe for Disaster Mithril Gloves, which can change depending on your progress within Recipe for Disaster. Ranger boots can also be switched for Rock Climbing boots as they are expensive. A ring can also be used, but is optional, though an Archers' Ring would be suitable for an Inventory setup such as this one. Within the inventory, two Ranging potion (4)s, six Saradomin Brew (4)s and nineteen Super Restore (4)s have been used, this can change depending on whether or not you feel you would need more prayer, however the Saradomin brew (4)s should be kept to a minimum if Biscuits or Purple sweets are used. Although being rather expensive, Purple sweets and Biscuits are very effective for doing Fight caves on lower-levelled accounts as they are stackable which means you can take as many as you want whilst only using one inventory space.
Note: More than 1,000 bolts may be needed.

Cheap Setup
If you have decided you have enough time to spend doing the Fight Caves, but don't have much money, and are going to go through with it, this is the suggested inventory setup you should take with you..

The setup shown above is a mix between the Cheap Setup, and the Luxury Setup. This setup is designed for people who are doing the Fight Caves and aren't amazingly wealthy, but have a little to put aside to obtain a Fire cape. The Inventory does not really change between the Average Setup and the Luxury Setup as the prayer bonus is similar, and the Dragonfire shield (charged) has good defence bonuses within its charged state, however, this does not mean that Extreme Ranging (4)s have to be used, regular Ranging Potion (4)s can also be used. Again, like the Luxury Setup, an imbued ring does not have to be used. There are a few variations within the wearable setup however; The black d'hide body can be switched for a Karil's top instead, for better defence and ranged bonuses. Also, a Helm of Neitiznot is used within this setup, a Verac's helm would also work in the helmet slot, and Ranger boots would be a better replacement of the Snakeskin boots which are shown.
Note: More than 1,000 bolts may be needed depending upon your level in Ranged

Luxury Setup
f you have decided you have enough time to spend doing the Fight Caves, have a lot of money, and are going to go through with it, this is the suggested inventory setup you should take with you..

The setup shown above shows a similar Inventory setup to that of the Cheap Setup, this is because you don't normally need a differentiating amount of prayer whilst doing the Fight Caves, and the number of Saradomin Brew (4)s depends on the amount you get hit whilst inside the Caves, both leading up to TzTok-Jad, and fighting TzTok-Jad himself. Again, the Enhanced Excalibur is used, as this item is very useful, and is rather easy to obtain without completion of the Seers' Tasks elite task. The setup used is designed to give a very good Ranged attack bonus, whilst also providing a Prayer bonus. Most of the equipment shown within this setup provides a Prayer bonus (Armadyl GodWars armour, Divine Spirit Shield, Verac's helm). Within the inventory of this setup, two Extreme Ranging (4)s are included. This has been done because most high levels who can afford Armadyl armour, are able to use these extreme potions, however; If you cannot, use Ranging potion (4)s instead. To aid the elitist factor of this setup, a Divine Spirit Shield has been used, obviously not every player owns one of these extremely expensive shields, nor want to buy one. A Dragonfire shield (charged) works just as well as a spirit shield, until the TzTok-Jad stage, at which point all damage reduction helps massively which the Dragonfire Shield (charged) does not have. Also, like the other setups shown, Broad-tipped bolts have been used, although this setup has Diamond bolts (e) within the inventory, this is because although being very cheap, Broad-tipped bolts are used by all levels and are just as effective when used inside the Fight Caves whilst saving money, The Diamond bolts (e) in the Inventory are to be used for TzTok-Jad to make the fight a little easier. Another elitist item is the Archers' Ring (i).
Again Note: More than 1,000 bolts may be needed depending upon your level in Ranged.

6 - Strategies

There are a total of 63 waves in the Fight Caves, including the TzTok-Jad. This section is here to break them down so you can understand your current progress in the Fight Caves.

Waves 1-14:
This wave is rather easy, with the highest level being two Tok-Xil (level-90). They attack you with Ranged and can do a lot of damage if you are not careful. You may want to pray against them occasionally, but doing so is not suggested as you will need your prayer later on.

Waves 15-30:
Now the Fight Caves start to get harder, by adding a Yt-MejKot (level-180) into the mix. This monster is pure melee. You can use smaller monsters to block, and range him if you wish, only after killing the Tok-Xil and Tz-Kih first. If you choose to melee this monster, which isn't advised due to it's ability to heal when close to you, use the prayer Protect from melee.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Waves 31-60:
As soon as you finish off the two Yt-MejKot, immediately put on your Protect from magic prayer. From now on until the final wave you will be facing a Ket-Zek (level-360). This monster can deal up to 500 damage without your Protect from magic prayer on and can also do melee damage if you get too close. You will likely have to keep your Protect from magic prayer on for every normal wave onwards unless you kill the Ket-Zek first in every wave. Remember when you face this monster always watch your prayer points and kill the Tz-Kih before they drain your prayer points. It is suggested to range every monster from now on. You can melee smaller monsters if you need to and want to save arrows but make sure to kill the Ket-Zek first so you can save prayer, but remember to turn it back on after finishing the current wave. Players may try to trap monsters behind each other in a line, melee the ones in the front and range the ones in the back.

Wave 61:
If you are not at full life points and are approaching the TzTok-Jad, then these last two waves are your last chances to heal. Make sure that you have enough special bar to use your Enhanced Excalibur to heal if you need to before TzTok-Jad appears.

Wave: 62:
This is the final wave before the TzTok-Jad (level-702). Like other final waves it will contain two of the strongest monsters from proceeding waves: two Ket-Zek (level-360). Make sure your prayer is as close to maximum (without wasting a dose of Prayer potion (4)), and that the Protect from magic prayer is on. Stand in the marked spot shown on the image below (on the north side of the Italy shaped rock). You may also wish you drink a dose of Saradomin Brew (4) to boost your life points above it's maximum, so the TzTok-Jad is less likely to kill you in one hit. Proceed to range one of the Ket-Zek's and then the other. After you have finished killing the last Ket-Zek, TzHaar-Mej-Jal will appear in the chat box to warn you that the TzTok-Jad is coming. Protect from ranged first (explained further down).

Blocking the TzTok-Jad?
This is sadly no longer possible to do. There are random occurrences which the TzTok-Jad may become stuck but it is unlikely to happen. Of course if it does happen you will have more time to plan and set up. Most first-timers are shaking a bit at this point, so use the opportunity to try and calm down.

Wave 63:
TzTok-Jad
Finally, after about an hour and half of battling some of the hardest monsters in RuneScape, you are about to defeat one of the hardest monsters to ever appear to date, the TzTok-Jad!

After TzHaar-Mej-Jal comes on the screen and says the TzTok-Jad has spawned, it can attack with either Ranged or Magic first, so put on Protect from ranged as this is the attack you can't hear until it's too late! (you can hear his Magic attack - turn your sound effects on). TzTok-Jad's Magic attack sounds like two bangs close together, so listen out and be ready to switch to Protect from magic prayer if you hear it. You can try having auto retaliate on and see if you can find the TzTok-Jad faster or not, sometimes it helps, and other times it doesn't if you can't locate him right away.

Once you have located the TzTok-Jad pay immediate attention to his feet. If you don't, you will die in a matter of seconds due to lack of the correct protection prayer. Here is how his attacks work:

Range:
He will raise his feet, and then slam them down right away. You will also see a lightning effect around his feet when they hit the ground. If you see this, quickly turn on protect from range as you won't hear this attack until it's too late.

Mage:
He will tilt his head down as a large asteroid like object forms, when he lunges forward the object will head towards you. Quickly turn on Protect from Mage. You can also hear this attack; it sounds like two loud bangs close together. So have your sounds on, it helps.

Melee:
He will attack using melee if you are standing beside him. It looks like he's trying to grab you with his hand.

During this battle, make sure you are keeping up your prayer points, or you may find yourself dead. You must be especially careful if you are using a Divine spirit shield to reduce accidental damage.

Healers:
Once you have managed to get the TzTok-Jad to half health, four healers will spawn in attempt to heal him back to full life points. You need to attack all four healers right away so they focus on you and not the TzTok-Jad. If the healers are successful in healing the TzTok-Jad all the way then you're at risk of losing, as they'll all turn on you. Once you have killed the healers they will not appear again, unless they have completely healed him back to full life points before you managed to kill them.
Note: If TzTok-Jad spawns behind the Italy shaped rock, you can attack each of the healers and they will follow you if you go back behind the Italy shaped rock where it is safe so that you can kill them without having to worry about TzTok-Jad.

Highly experienced players with access to Overload (4)s and Ancient curses should have no problem killing TzTok-Jad in less than 20 seconds using the Dragon claws' special attack.

After the healers, there are no more surprises and all that is left is for you to kill the TzTok-Jad once and for all. Once he's dead you leave the cave and TzHaar-Mej-Jal will award you with a Fire cape and 16,000 Tokkul. If you do the fight caves again you will get another cape and 16,000 Tokkul.

If you managed make it this far, congratulations you have just finished the hardest activity in RuneScape

7 - Logout

A big problem with this game when it was first released, was that you could not log out during the fight caves unless you were willing to give up all your progress. However, you can now logout during the fight caves and pick up where you left off! However note that at wave 63 you cannot log out or you will lose your progress!

[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Click the logout button and it will say you will be logged out after the current wave or click "logout now" to abort the mini game entirely. Once you're sure you've finished off all the monsters in that wave, click logout. When you next login, you will start from the next wave. Don't forget to turn your prayers back on!
