Hello, I am sure you are all aware now that they are tracking down on people who illegally download as they are targeting people using p2p networks and torrents etc as they can track your ip etc. But i am wondering if you illegally download from a File Hosting website such as Megaupload for example can they track your ip if you downloaded a file such as a Album,Music or Movie from there or is it virtually impossible and nothing to worry about.

Please reply

Thanks

It's very possible to track your IP but they don't Care about people who download the material, they really really care for the people who crack and upload them.

If you upload illegal content to Megaupload or other hosting sites, its even worse than uploading torrents to torrent sites. Mainly because you can get banned on the sites you upload too, they can also track your IP and possibly give your info to the Authors or makers of whatever you uploaded illegaly. So that's a lot more trouble aswell. I actually had some expereince doing that, you know SpeedTree? Google it if you don't know it. It's a program that makes realistic trees and they used it in Avatar. Well if you download UDK, you get like a mini program of SpeedTree for free (Usually SpeedTree is like $800-$1500 or something like that). Well I uploaded the program from UDK to MegaUpload and like 15 minutes later they shutdown my link because they thought I uploaded the full version of SpeedTree and the makers actually found out (They're a serious business) and shut it down till they found out it was the free mini version so they put it back up. Lol they taught me not to upload illegal things even though it wasn't illegal.

You're fearmongering. They only come after you for content they are watching. Almost all of their resources are allocated to the latest movies or pr0n. Stay away from those two things and you will be fine.

Dude yes you can get in trouble for downloading it but they mainly care about the person who uploaded/cracked the file/program.

file hosting sites where you pay for downloads are safer than torrent sites, as the site will try to protect the user if companys begin asking about pirated material. Why? The site is making TONS of money off of you visiting the page with 1000 ads, and when you become premium you make them even more money, sorta like a "you scratch my back I scratch yours" sorta deal.

They don't quite have the selection of many user-sourced trackers, though. I'm an audiophile, so I find torrent trackers to be the best lossless sources out there aside from vinyl and CDs. If I could afford vinyl, I'd get it.

My opinion of the matter is i really don't give two shtis about whether the find out i've been downloading pirated programs/music/etc.. being that they can supposedly track my IP address, there are still ways to remain anonymous amongst the internet.

So if they do discover all my paid crap was downloaded for free, i can just redownload anonymously.

this... this is fail quote of the year.... If they track you and know you downloaded illegal material, they WILL sue you or your parents/guardian, and then if you somehow can still afford a computer, you would be retarded as they will continue to monitor your activity.
