It provides more power to the headphones. The K271s in particular sound pretty bright and thin without an amp. I wouldn't go with an E5. If you can afford it, go with a Fiio E11 but if not, a CMoy like [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

The AKG 271's have a XLR Female cable? Do you know where I can get a short XLR Male to 3.5mm cable?

Is durability a big priority? Yes because i will probably take them around with me.

Do you need an amp and/or DAC? No.
Have you had significant experience with certain headphones in the past? I've tested a few headphones like Beats and a few others. I didn't really like Beats though.

Very bassy, portable, durable, and good-looking. You can customize the LP2 to your liking on V-Moda's site, too.

I totally agree about the beats part all of my friends have solos and i got the vmoda crossfades on cyber monday for $80 and they are much better than solos

I want some in ear headphones for listening to rock and I need it to be around 50$ and be able t be durable as I will be skating with them on.
