CSHS wrote This isn't a headphone request but responding would be appreciated. Are the Sony MDR XB600 any good? I saw them on Amazon as my pair of XB500's broke.

Haha, buy another XB500!

Unless you want something different, of course, but I'm finding the New XB Series hard to recommend.

Did they go overboard with the bass and ruin everything else?

Nevermind I watched the review.

In your position I'd get the Logitech UE6000 which are $200 and very unique. They're active noise cancelling cans... But they're good. They're good-looking and portable... But they're good.

Your best option, unless you can find a cheap Grado SR60 on eBay or something, is probably the Koss Portapro which you suggested in another thread. Most other sub $40 headphones tend to be too slow for rock

I heard the UE6000 over the weekend. They're decent. They're clearly better than the M50, but I didn't love their midrange at all. It sounded kinda funky with rock. They were definitely warm, almost wooly, which was slightly obnoxious with rock. But there aren't really any other options that I can think of sadly. The Sony MDR-1 seems interesting though. I'm actually really considering going for the M100 despite not wanting to join the hype train. Two of the people I trust the most recommended them, so I basically have to at least check them out. Maybe Val can give me one...

Budget: $200 max

Music preferences: Rap, Hip-Hop, Techno, Dubstep,

Type/form-factor: Around the ear with big drivers

Open or closed: Whatever works better, preferably closed

Listening from: My laptop and cell phone (Iphone 3GS(MY ANDROID WAS STOLEN))

Details: Want something with a portable case, and something that will be comfortable for long periods of use.

V-moda LP2, the only thing with a portable case in your budget that I can think of. Not sure about the Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro, but look them up
