r00t_b33r wrote I ordered those Sony XB500 a few hours before the deal ended, guess I'm still rounding out my entry-level headphone collection! I loved how the XB700 sounded and it would be great as a secondary headphone. Can't wait to try the XB500! I guess I'll post my thoughts, but you'd be better-off taking it from someone with a lot of experience reviewing headphones.

The 700's actually sound pretty different. The 500's sound A LOT more colored. It's really interesting actually.

Huh, so I guess they're less of a lower-end model and just another product with different characteristics. I'm looking forward to it.

It's definitely a lot less refined, but for $30, you really can't go wrong with them. If nothing else, the pads are awesome.

I was in awe of the XB700 pads, looking forward to these. I bet they'd make great movie headphones! Action movie marathons with bass-heavy soundtracks? Super-comfy super-bassy headphones? Yes please.

Just be prepared for awkward-sounding voices.

I'm pretty excited to hear the funky mids.

Listened to my Klispch S4s today... They're definitely just fart cannons.

Unrelated story I thought I could fit in as a relevant reply but that didn't work: My friend recently inherited some HD580's (I think) since her dad is upgrading to the HD800 and they basically corrupted her into the hobby. It's really interested actually because I knew it was a matter of time until that happened. But anyway she started asking random headphone questions which led me to digging out some review samples I got a couple of years ago that I raved about and...all of them are fart cannons. The entry-level IEM market really is progressing at an amazing rate. The S4 used to be like the budget IEM, but now, they're woefully surpassed by other IEM's. Klipsch should step it up again.

Haha I like to think buying the S4 was a bad decision, but you know, I got these things a number of years ago. I guess they were a good decision now, but today... I use small rubber bands to hold the enclosures together (glue gave out, easy fix I haven't bothered with) and they sound like they almost struggle to produce anything but bass. I need to get a new pair of hotshot IEMs like the GR06 to see what the fuss is about. Maybe I'm an IEM person and I don't know it!

And that girl? If she's into headphones, she's already 100% more awesome in my book. Seeing the birth of new audiophiles is nice.

Also I'm re-doing this ugly topic right now. To quote Generation: "looks like a cotton candy ball exploded and **** everywhere"

I still need to hear the GR06 and basically every new IEM. The last new IEM I've heard was the RE272, and that was a while ago. I'm probably missing out on a lot. Sennheiser is sending me their new mid-range (I think?) IEM. I'll be sure to tell you show those are, because they're cheaper than the GR07 and look fancy: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Hopefully she'll convert her friends too! They're all rather hipstery so that'll probably happen.

And the topic doesn't look miserable. I was showing the same friend some binaural recordings and sent her a link to the huge HF one and it's terrible. [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Until the topic looks this good, I'm not going to bed. I'm making good progress but have a long way to go.

Those Sennheiser IEMs look funky. They look cheap, hopefully they don't feel or sound cheap!

Your budget:any
Which genres you'll be listening to. Rap, rock, alternative, dubstep, and movies/videos. (mostly need some good headphones that are durable, have bass, isolate noise, and have multiple uses)*

What kind you want (over-ear, on-ear, in-ear, no preference, etc.) in-ear

Whether you want open or closed headphones (Explained below). N/A

What you are listening from (iPod, phone, desktop computer, laptop, console, turntable, etc.). ipod, iphone, laptop

*by multiple uses I mean for whenever I am doing different things such as: when I workout, hence ipod and iphone listings; when I just need music to listen to. Pretty much just for the same reasons that a normal person uses headphones for.
