PS4 and Xbox 720?

Having just launched a US-based studio focusing on next generation game development, it's perhaps unsurprising that Just Cause maker Avalanche expects to see one or both of Xbox 720 and PS4 on the market by 2014.

The developer revealed last week that newly formed Avalanche Studios New York is making an "unannounced AAA title" targeted for release on next-gen platforms in 2014, and studio manager David Grijns told Edge:

"We obviously talk to everybody, and everybody talks to us. We have some intelligence to go on that, by early 2014, we're pretty sure there'll be at least one next-generation console on the market.

"Anyone who says they know what the market is going to look like three years from now is just blowing smoke," he added. "Whatever happens, we feel very confident that we'll be ready for it."

Just this week, PlayStation US boss Jack Tretton has said that nothing Nintendo's revealed about Wii U suggests to him Sony needs to introduce new hardware any time soon, while Crytek has denied rumours that it has begun development on games for the next generation Xbox.

Avalanche co-founder Christofer Sundberg also told Edge that the industry doesn't need better looking games, just "better" ones.

"If there is a way to push the bar in a few years then that's fine, but the looks of games these days are so good that they don't need to look better," he said.

"What is more interesting is the ways that developers and publishers can find new ways of designing games - and more interesting gameplay and distribution models - rather than better-looking games."

I'll understand a new xbox system, hopefully not named 720 but a new playstation system is not required, their current system is next gen enough to have "ultra realistic" graphics.

I'm sure that the PS4 is on the way but Microsoft said the 360 still has not peaked and still needs to thrive and grow.Kinect is still a brand new thing to the 360.I believe Microsoft to be patient and confident. They might lose a bit of cash but they will pushed through with their loyal players of their console.Anything could happen though, they could suprise us and that could be a disappointment or a joyful ending but I surely believe that PS4 is on the way with the Wii 2 but the Xbox will stay neutral and fun to play
