Had an interesting idea just now, im sure i aint the first.

I was thinking of the capability to mod / hack the voice application within the xbox 360 system, to make phone calls through the console. My knowledge of the system is slim to none, so i dont even know how feasible it is. But keeping in mind that everything is hackable, its then just a matter of time.

It would be nice. I spend around $240 a year on phone services. 1 xbox 360 and 1 year XBL Gold subscription costs around $260. If the hacked phone feature through the xbox network were capable it would take just over a year to see a savings.

Just a thought I had to get out. Peace

More to the storm...........................................................

If it is possible to exploit the vuln in the older kernels to allow burnt games and the like to play. Then in theory the process could be taken further to force the system to run programs it wasnt designed to execute initialy.

Look at it from this angle. Facebook is now on xbox right. So what if we could force the xbox to connect to a phone service on the internet that allows VOIP by changing the address in the protocol for facebook. I think an additional program or two would be needed to help cary out the process, but in theory its not impossible.

My initial idea was revolved around the party chat feature of xbox. But with some modding and some programming, you would add contacts / friends to your list but they would actualy be phone numbers that you would connect to. So the idea was that you could send a party invite to that "friend" but for those contacts / friends that were configured it would actualy begin a phone call.

All of this gos well beyond just hacking the box. It would also require getting the MS servers to pass the packets on. I think tricking / forcing the servers to handle this data transfer would likely be harder than manipulating the xbox itself.

@CONDEMR:

I have not been doing any more on this idea. The whole XBOX side of hacking is beyond my scope at this point. It would be interesting to learn, but with all of my other hobbies and projects its not a priority.

As to JTAG / Freeboot, no I havent gotten into that either. I have read a bunch of tutorials on the subject, but I dont have an extra XBOX 360 lying around to experiment on.
