All computers can be good. You just need a good graphics card and Processor.

these specs will only be able to run todays games at low to medium graphics. if thats what you are looking for then ok. but if you want to actually be able to enjoy games then you need to step up your graphics card to an nvidia 460 or ATI 5770. and also you shouold highly consider spending the extra money for any of intels i processors they really do make the difference. my suggestions to you would be not to go cheap with a crappy laptop but to go to the middle and get either an Asus g53jw-a1 or a MSI gx660r the gx660 is closer to your price range.

Well MSI's are great gaming laptops but since you won't spend over 1,000 I don't recommend it since it's not in your price range but the specs on those are INSANE!
