Gold farming is the growing and selling of gold. It originated in Egypt thousands of years ago, but was outlawed by the United Nations after World War II because France didn't know how and wanted instructions. The rest of the world just decided that, rather than deal with the noob, they would just outlaw it and say it was patched after Hitler died. France responded with a considerably whiny "awww i wanted to win."
Moral of the story: I have no idea what gold farming is.

Well, in the context you probs heard it in... it's using bots (or warehouses full of asian children)to get alot of gold in a short amount of time. Then they sell the gold for cash and make irl profit. (Applicable to most MMO games, or games with currency)
