Okay so i found an article on the goldenrod. turns out that it is a plant. in fact it is the state flower of kentucky. what i found interesting was the legend behind the goldenrod.
Legends surround goldenrod. The stiff stem of the plant was historically used as a divining rod, but that was only successful if used by the right person. Another belief is whenever golden rod grows near a house, its occupants will have good fortune. Still another holds that wherever goldenrod grows, there can be found buried treasure.
Maybe there will be some kind of treasure linked to the goldenrod or if you have it with you then you and the other players do bettter like a good luck charm let me know what you guys think.

i really doubt its a plant what good would a plant do for a bunch of trapped prisoners

I think we should start thinking about what kind of "golden rod" could help someone escape from a room... instead of actually look for a literal golden rod, or a plant

idk but honestly dude what would a bunch of root beer do for them. its not to be taken literally maybe its just a good luck charm like i said. like a rabbits foot or something. you never know but alot of the stuff in there wouldnt literally help them if they were really fighting zombies now would it. besides vodka cause that would keep them sane

well, now thinking about it, it could be a plant, because when you load going into the map, there is a plant on the loading screen (upper right)

When you start the game, the loading screen has a picture of a plant in the top right, and it looks like a golden rod... I think were on to something here.
