Okay It seems like you have a bricked ipod don't worry this is an easy fix .

1: Plug it into your computer and open up itunes
2: then hold down the home and sleep/wake button on the top for 30 secs itunes should reconize it and say its in recovery mode click ok
3: if your ipod was jailbroken and you want to keep it jailbroken then go to this link [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] and go to the second drop down menu and select your ipod and version 4.2.1 and hit download
4:Once the file is downloaded go to itunes and click the restore button while hitting the shift button if you did it right it will tell you to select a file. Select the file you just downloaded and hit okay
5: it should restore and boot up like normal if you want to jailbreak it go to safari and type in wwwjailbreakmecom and your done

i did that yesterday you delete all apple software you have to hold sleep and home button for 15 secs till it cut off when taht happens at the same time let go of the sleep button and plug in your charger to your ipod (make sure you have itunes up) then it should say ipod is wanting to restore or something then restore it

u have to put it in DFU mode to do this you have to hold power button and home button for 10 seconds then you have to let go of the power button still holding onto the home button for 10 more seconds now sucessfully doing this restore wit itunes

i did everything you said and it says error 1161 can't restore ipod

i did everything you said and it says error 1161 can't restore ipod

Yes because you can't downgrade because you don't have shsh blobs

im not to sure but ther should be 2 buttons the big one at bottom and one at the top holdthem down unles thts with my iphone not to sure it resets it tho.

i didnt try to dowgrade because the version was 3.1.2
