Well the Subject explains itself

1st way to fix

WHAT NOT TO DO:
- Dont not ever keep the xbox next to anything that can set on fire
- ** Make sure you are doing these steps on Tile**

What's needed:
- 3 Towels
- RROD Jtag/ Xbox 360
- Power Brick

WRITTEN INSTRUCTION:
1.take hard drive, and video cables off.(only leaving the power cable.)
2. wrap it in 3-4 towels
3.turn it on and let be on for about 25 minutes.
4.once it has been on and in towels for 25 minutes take off towels.
5.DO NOT TURN ON AFTER UNWRAPPING XBOX
6.let xbox cool for 15-20 minutes.
7.buy chips and soda and enjoy your xbox.

** Make sure you have your hardrive, AV cables, and Usb out of your xbox

1 RING = ERROR IN CONSOLE. (RECONNECT ALL CABLES)

2 RINGS= XBOX IS OVERHEATED. (COOL YOUR XBOX DOWN)

3 RINGS= AV CABLE DISCONNECTED OR BROKEN

4 RINGS= POWER SUPPLY FAILURE

I can not garuntee this will help your xbox work forever but it will last awhile

2nd Way:

Known as the Penny trick
This way is much harder than the first
** No worries there will be a video**
Whats needed:
- p9 screw driver
- 1 roll of electric tape
- 1 tube of thermal paste
- 8 pennies

** This I can garuntee will work forever**

Steps:
1. take off xbox 360 shell
2. Unscrew all screws from under the first cover **Make sure you never loose any of the screws**3. Remove Disc Tray
4. CAREFULLY lift Fan protector out of xbox
5. remove actual fan from the motherboard
6. Next remove the RF board ( white piece above the green Led )
7. Unscrew the three black screws
8. Flip xbox upside down
9. Remove every screw

i never understood the towel trick so you get rrod because of overheating so to fix it you overheat it even more i don't find this logical i wouldn't try it.

Hey...just throwing my 2 cents in here...you can take it for what it is worth...but here:

"Towel Tricks" , "Penny Tricks" , "Heatgunning" , etc...are about the same fix as if your car won't start and you go out there and start hitting it with a large pipe wrench or pour gas on your motor and set it on fire and see if that "fixes" it. Personally...x-clamps and pennies are more like your temporary fixes...however, Overheating your console or using a heatgun on your motherboard is...well...dumb.

Chances are if you ask someone who uses a heatgun or other "fixes" what it is that they are actually trying to fix and I bet they won't be able to answer. Microsoft had to use the non-leaded solder for their BGA work. Non-leaded solder has a melting temp of 217...while the melting point is higher, it is a weaker solder and is more prone to cause your RRoD.

PROPER reflowing or reballing is the only REAL solution by personnel who know what they are doing.

Proper = Using appropriate BGA Rework/SMD Rework stations, fluxes, skill sets required, etc...

IR1337HaxxesNfixxes with his Lowes Heatgun and 15 year old engineering know-how is NOT proper equipment and skill sets

People never seem to realize by overheating your console or throwing an x-clamp mod on there and torquing it down to the point of trying to pull the heat sinks thru the motherboard are only making the chances of it being properly fixed a lot less...

I've reballed consoles where people torqued their x-clamp mods down...and ruined the pads on the motherboard and completely 110% ruined the board ever being repairable...

You overheat your console...it MAY work but I guarantee it will not last long...which may buy you a day? week? ... well your problem that could have been fixed with a reflow is now also going to require it being reballed because it is too gone to fix with a reflow...so you just end up either costing yourself more money to get it fixed, or you have to write it off as a loss and sell it.

You guys are smart...just use your head....would you heatgun your 52" LCD because a guy on a forum who you have NO idea who they are told you that it will fix the picture?? I don't care if you come to me for your fixes or find someone else out there, but I'm trying to give you advice not to ruin your console or chances of an easy fix becoming a more expensive and bit harder fix to find. People who have the proper equipment, skills, and proof to reflow and reball are hard enough to find...don't cripple yourself because you listened to bad advice on the forums...
