Hello!

I'm looking into building my first PC. I will be using it for music software primarily- Traktor, Sibelius, FL Studio, and a few other similar programs. I will also be doing some light gaming on it, mostly NES emulation and possibly Eve online, but I am not concerned with high resolution on that. I would like to keep the budget around $1,000, maybe up to $1,500 if the cost is justified. I work on a Towboat, so I would like something in a mini tower that I could carry back and forth from work. I will most likely be using a TV for a monitor. Here is what I was experimenting with-

Sound card is totally unnecessary. If the motherboard's audio is limiting you, you'd want external audio equipment, not a sound card. i5-7600k makes no sense, because it's last generation(almost 2 generations old now), and you can't overclock with that H270 motherboard anyway. If you're going Intel, grab an i5-8400 and B360/H370 motherboard.

Mid tier GPU so you can do any kind of gaming you want, plus the GPU comes with 3 free games. Kept the mITX form factor for you, but switched to Ryzen for 2 extra cores, and 8 extra threads. You can also overclock the Ryzen CPU with this mobo if you want to. Much better quality, and fully modular PSU which you'll appreciate because it will make cable management significantly easier. 970 EVO instead of 960 EVO since the 970 is cheaper, and replaced the 960 so is better.

If you want Intel instead;

With Intel, you can drop the GPU and run iGPU if you really want to. I wouldn't want to run the i5 iGPU though lol. With the Ryzen 5 2600, you'll need the GPU because the R5 does not have an iGPU.
