Ummm go back under your bridge kid...

Anyway, the system you're asking about is a bit dated but not too bad to get into the PC world.
I wouldn't pay $500 but would see if you can get him down to around $350-400.

That system should eat GTA V like nothing, the GTX 780 is almost on par with a 970 and it ran GTA 5 with ease, here is a link to a FPS test of the same CPU same amount of RAM and a 970.

Alright, first of all, that's at 1600x900 resolution lmfao. Second of all, GTX 970 is a better GPU than a 780Ti, never mind a vanilla GTX 780. GTX 780 typically falls somewhere right in the middle of a 1050Ti and GTX 1060 3GB. However, it can be as slow as a 1050Ti, depending on the title.

Regardless, the GPU isn't the major issue, CPU is. It's ancient trash, and no system with an FX-8350 is worth $500, unless it has a 2TB SSD or a GTX 1070Ti-1080Ti.

OP - It's a pretty piss poor system. Will it play GTA V? Sure. Will it be a comfortable experience? Depends. You'll be able to run 60+ FPS at medium(ish) settings at 1080p in GTA V with a GTX 780. Maybe some stuff turned up to high, but the CPU would definitely be holding you back.
