Hi guys,

What are your thoughts on this build?

Honestly it depends on the use case IMO.

There is really no need for a disk drive, as you can buy a USB one if really need be, and be fine with that. The case, honestly from experience is not the greatest. SATA > M.2, unless you really need it, you will notice a slight performance increase under storage intensive load over a traditional SSD.

The fans are alright, but i prefer the AF120's over them simply due to the price/pack, and just look better.

Help us a little and you know we'll help you

Budget + currency?
Any preferred aesthetics?
What all do you need? (peripheral and monitor wise)
Main use?

SATA isn't better than m.2. m.2 is the form factor, like 2.5". The 850 EVO is a SATA SSD, but it comes in either 2.5" or m.2 form factor. The 960 EVO is an NVMe SSD that just so happens to only come in m.2 form factor. The 960 EVO IS better than any SATA SSD, objectively. It's just not really worth the premium over a nice SATA SSD, like the 850 EVO for the majority of people.

AF120's and AF140's are gaarbaaage. I used some for like 6 days and binned them because they were louder than some shitty LED fans I had.

OP - What are your intended uses for the system? There's a good chance the 960 EVO isn't going to be worth it. The fans are alright, but over-priced for what they are IMO. You can get SilentWings 3's for a similar price, and they'll be a good bit quieter than those Corsair fans. Or, you could get Pure Wings 2's for almost half the price of the ML140's. Is the optical drive really essential? I've used an optical drive once in the past 4 or 5 years, and I just plugged in an external optical drive for that, which is what I'd recommend unless you're really going to be using an optical drive fairly often. 212 EVO is a bad choice of cooler. You can get something better for a similar price, but a £20-25 cooler isn't going to be enough for the 7700k if you're overclocking, just so you know. On the topic of the 7700k, I really wouldn't bother. Coffee Lake has been officially announced and should be releasing pretty soon, Intel will finally be bringing 6 cores to their mainstream platform so investing in a £300 quad core at this point is just really not a wise purchase unless you really need a system now and really need the slightly better IPC with Intel over Ryzen. Lastly, that RAM is waayyy over-priced, really no need to spend more than £120-130 on 16GB RAM, at most.

I quite like the case and it has good reviews, what is it that you are not sure on?

1200GBP
Sleak and clean, metal case preferred.
The PC is all, I have everything else

I have the 850 Pro currently, I want the 860 and 850 Evo's. My mind is set on those

As for fans, they where just placeholders. I have no real concern about what they are as long as they keep the PC cool I am good.

I want the drive I will be using it weekly.

I will not be overclocking.

I had thought about that however I can't really wait and need a new system now.

As for RAM, what would you recommend. I want two 8s so I can upgrade in the future.

I'm really not sure you'll benefit from the 960 EVO to be honest, which would just be wasted money. For less than the 500GB 850 EVO+250GB 960 EVO, you could get a 1.1TB MX300 which is pretty much 2nd best SATA SSD, right after the 850 EVO. I would recommend the 1.1TB MX300 but if you want to go 850 EVO, and 960 EVO, I guess go for it lol. 850 EVO is definitely a solid option, just the 960 EVO that's a bit iffy IMO.

For fans, grab something from Be Quiet! My Pure Wings 2's are whisper quiet.

Fair enough on the optical drive, though I maybe wouldn't spend so much on one unless it's really necessary lol.

Since you say you're doing IT and music development, I'd suggest grabbing a Ryzen CPU instead of a 7700k.

RAM wise, 2x8GB is fine, but not for £190. Any 16GB kit for £120-130 is fine.

So, I'd probably look at something like this instead;

Case Fan: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] (£8.72 @ Aria PC)
Total: £1000.65

Good chunk cheaper. You still get a nice Fractal case, 16GB of sufficiently fast RAM, better fans, better PSU, and the SSD's you wanted. Ryzen stock cooler is going to be more than adequate since you have no intention of overclocking, but even if you do decide to overclock, you can do so with stock cooler. You can even spend a bit more for an R7 1700 if you want, but I don't really think you'll benefit much, if at all from it, so an R5 1600 should be perfect. You could spend less on the motherboard if you want, but I wanted to give you a solid motherboard with 2 x m.2 ports. GT 1030 is in there just because Ryzen doesn't have an iGPU. You don't really need the GT 1030, you could get any somewhat recent GPU for £20-25, just anything that will work for display output. I think you can probably get a GT 740, or an R7 240/250 cheap as chips, which would do the job.
