If you had a decent budget, could've gotten something from razer would've suited everyday needs just fine IMO. then again i use a thinkpad never really had issues running games on one.

This has nothing to do with graphics but if you want to upgrade your laptop you can put in an SSD it will make it feel much more smooth, and fast. ONCE AGAIN this has nothing to do with graphics, you can't upgrade those because your graphics are integrated but swapping to an SSD is one thing that you can easily do to upgrade your laptops speed, It will boot much faster and load programs much better

Actually there is an external upgrade you can do. It costs a lot though...

You'd need a GPU external driver and a GPU itself.

Ehhh idk about that it would be hard to spend that much money on the core and an external graphics card for it to maybe work and work maybe some of the time. They arent really made to be used for laptops other then razor and it needs the usb-c I believe, correct me if I'm wrong I know it works with some laptops but I'm sure they are more modern ones

There are some with a usb 3.0 general connector also. That is an example and it doesn't connect to most laptops other than razer. However it's something he could look into. Personally I think he should get a new system.
