Hello, all. As the title of this topic states I am getting GARBAGE download speeds in correlation to my actual speed on Steam in comparison to Uplay or Origin.

Internet speed:

Speed of Steam:

What I want to know is why is Steam so much slower than my actual speed? I should be getting somewhere in the neighboorhood of 12 MB or so which is what I get on Origin and Uplay roughly, but no where near that speed on Steam. Why?

I have tried changing download regions, running Steam as administrator, restarting Steam and my PC multiple times, etc

Torrenting doesn't have a major effect on downloads with speeds like that.

OP: Different protocols, I've explained this once before. Certain game DL servers are slower than others. You may be getting interrupted by latency, if you're on wifi definitely a limitation, and as for ethernet, you may have something sucking up bandwidth.

@Shiv:

No, I have nothing else running in the background while downloading other than having Chome open or Teamspeak open but I have both of those open in other clients as well and neither of those programs effect my downloads in them. Just really strange that Steam is the only one affected.

@Mitochondria:

I am on ethernet and it is just me on the network. I would understand if there was some program eating all the bandwidth, but I get roughly the downloads I should be getting from the other clients all the time, it is just Steam that suffers. Would really like to figure out why it is how it is, but I have no idea what the issue is.

I noticed something and though about it you have ATT, and assuming you're on a business package? or just a high speed? Also do you have Uverse/home/phone ETC. with ATT aswell?

Yeah this happens to me sometimes usually because of the download region. The best way I learned how to fix it is to go into setting then click download, then download region should be on the list. Just change it to another area that is semi close to you.

It is just a high speed plan and I have multiple mobile phones on the plan as well, but no home phone and no Uverse either.

Its AT&T man. I have download speed issues with their 370Up/370 DL package.

Even on Xbox One games will download at 8mbps which ass. I'm just commenting on my personal experience with them sorry for not helping in any kind of way..GL

EDIT: I see you're in the Atlanta area you should check the speeds AT&T offers you because they have been releasing symmetrical 100mbps-300mbps and gigabit Internet in all over the US including Atlanta. Im sure you're paying over 85 $ for that 100/20 Internet line.
