Motherboard is AsRock H61M-HVS - [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Processor - [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

RAM - [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

I know the ram will work with the motherboard just want a second opinion on whether or not it's ok to use 1 8gb stick rather than 2 4gb sticks as I plan to get another 8gb stick in the future. Will defiantly upgrade mobo and cpu before I do that though. They are getting pretty old and need an upgrade. I need the RAM now because one of my 4gb sticks of RAM just died on me.

Your CPU is still fine. An upgrade to Kaby Lake really wouldn't make sense and that's your only logical CPU upgrade now. Zen might be a good upgrade for you but for a CPU upgrade, you're going to need a new mobo and DDR4 RAM anyway so any RAM you buy now isn't going to be compatible when you upgrade CPU. So just buy whatever 1x8GB or 2x4GB DDR3 DIMMs are cheapest so that you have RAM for now. 8GB will be enough to last you until you can upgrade CPU/RAM/Mobo together.

Have to get DDR3 for now, but will the RAM work with my current mobo is the question?

Yes. If 2x4GB is the same price or cheaper though, itd make more sense than 1x8GB since 8GB will be fine for now and you'll need DDR4 RAM when you upgrade CPU anyway.

Thanks! Yeah I think it's like a dollar or two cheaper to get 2x4gb, but would rather get 1 8gb stick.
