Hello people, how are you?

Now, I've been told you folk are good at this PC-building melancholy.

So, I'm here to ask the advice of you people. I require a decent piece of kit, to last me a long while, without it continuously breaking f*cking down on me!

People, I'm after a general PC that I will mainly use for university; also, the odd bit of gaming, downloading music and whatever else.

However, this is the most important part. IT MUST NOT COST AN ARM AND A LEG!! So, no more than 500 British Pounds (non of that foreign rubbish),

I am a mere poor university student and, thus cannot require a extraordinarily exuberant machine.

Whilst I am writing this people, my computer nerd sibling is telling me to be more specific. Therefore, I must spell it out to you people: a keyboard, a mouse, monitor without a shadow of doubt, and all the other necessary but ridiculously priced functional components.

Well, thanks a bunch you kind people of the internet community - I really, really, really appreciate it!

Melancholy PC Building? Never heard of that one.

So you need a keyboard, monitor, mouse, and other peripherals within your budget, as well as the PC itself? What other peripherals do you need? What exactly will you actually be using the PC for? What's "the odd bit of gaming"? and what kind of work will you be doing on the system?

Right,

University work will the main use of this computer, i.e. word, excel, and running eBooks. The laptop I use right now struggles to keep up as I have numerous programs running simultaneously.

The £500 is for the whole thing, my friend - I'm most poor.

In terms of gaming, I'm thinking from Command & Conquer to League of Legends our kid.

Thanks so much for your timely reply.

I meant what is the £500 for, since you said
"all the other necessary but ridiculously priced functional components. "
but I'm assuming you just need the PC, kb/mouse, and monitor.

Not much you can do with £500 since you need peripherals so you only really have a little under £400 to spend on a system. An i3-6100 would definitely be worth the extra £50 over the G4500, but you pretty much need the Pentium to be within budget, unless you want to get the i3 and use the iGPU to get it within budget.
