First off, definitely going to want to put a ssd in your build and you can find cheap legit windows keys online if you look around.

I'm not too familiar with a lot of pc parts but I'm sure 13 will be here soon to give you a better second opinion. Definitely wait for his 2 cents before your friend makes a purchase.

You will be fine with a cheap 250gb or lower ssd, the Samsung 850 EVO series is a popular choice but you don't need to get it. Most people get it because it's reliable and hasn't cause anyone any problems to my knowledge.

Oh no. What? An entry level GPU in a $1k system? Unlocked CPU on a H110 chipset motherboard? I assume your friend won't be overclocking? In which case there's no need for an unlocked CPU. Don't use Windows 7, use Win10. Also don't pay $100 or so for your OS. You can easily get your OS for free, or for less than $30.
