got my first PC back in june on a budget but for christmas my family will help and ill throw in a few dollars for some upgrades. Now, a graphics card is a must have so that can be the start. I don't know how to tell if a specific part will fit or not so ill add everything I can to help you guys out. Thanks for the help inadvance by the way, hoping to go anywhere up to $400's-$500's in total.
Heres my current specs, nothing fancy or anything.
Im mainly looking to add a Graphics card but I have no clue what im doing in all honesty.

If I already have a mid tower case do I still need to substitute for this one? Like, can I still fit the parts in the case I already own or would I need a new one?

You should not re-use a case from a pre-built PC since it's going to be terribly low quality and cause issues with some components. If you've got a different case, you should have told us that so we could suggest something compatible. I'd probably still recommend upgrading case if you have something low end, and/or poor quality.

Yeah it is a pre-built desktop case.
Heres a picture with link.
Also, with upgrades and such will it be possible to run more of the upper-scale games with what quality, etc? just curious.

With a discrete GPU, you'll actually be able to play games fine. Your CPU and RAM are fine, so a GTX 1060 would be a nice match. Case and PSU are trash so getting those replaced is a good idea. Actually, the PSU upgrade is necessary. Case upgrade isn;t necessary but it's definitely a smart move. You've already got an HDD in there, so add the SSD for your OS and favourite games/applications.
