Introduction
Hi, now I know this topic might start out as a pretty random topic but I figured I would help a lot of people who are wanting to start editing or become an editor.
Whether it may be simple video edits like skits or commentaries, or whether it may be a more serious editor, editing things such as montages, music videos, you name it.
About Me & Where I Started
I started editing about 5 years ago when I was 10 years old...yes, 10 years old. I have lost a lot of motivation for editing now, seeing only I edit COD montages. I started editing with Pinaccle Studio, for some of you newer cats, Pinaccle Studio was the editing software you got when you purchased a Dazzle capture card, or well that's how I remember it. My edits used to be horrible but I then went on to more and more programs. Here is a list (in order) from what programs I went to.
1. Pinaccle Studio
2. Arcsoft Showbiz (HDPVR editing software)
3. AVG
4. Adobe After Effects
What You Will Need To Start Editing
1. A decent computer (ONLY if you are doing bigger, more serious edits.)
Recommended PC Specs (FOR SERIOUS EDITING):
2. Desire, patience, and motivation to want to edit.
3. Editing Software
4. Basic math skills such as division, multiplication, addition, and subtraction.
That is all you need to start editing.
Editing Programs
1. Now if you are into editing montages or anything like that, I would prefer:
Adobe After Effects
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
2. If you are more into editing commentaries or anything like that, I would prefer:
Sony Vegas Pro
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
NOTE: Now unfortunately I can't provide you guys with free cracked versions of these programs even though I want to. I do not want to risk copyright claims towards me, my post, or TTG itself. Just go on YouTube and search how to get them or buy them online.
Planning and Organizing
1. Plan the edit you're going to do by sorting clips, songs, sounds, everything.
Now both programs have the abilities to create folders so start by creating folders for everything such as sounds, clips, etc. Also plan on the style you are going to do.
2. Organize things by color labeling or numbering them.
Organization and Planning make a better and easier experience when editing.
What To Practice
1. Practice is everything when it comes to editing. I would prefer looking up tutorials on how to do certain effects. I of course have a few simple tutorials on my channel as well. Just click my edit down below the post and watch it on YouTube, there you will find my channel along with a few tutorials as well as a FREE EDITING PACK!
2. Practice your syncing with the songs and the clips. Tutorials can be found on YouTube.
3. Learn and practice keyframing as it is the MOST IMPORTANT thing in editing. Keyframing is what brings the edits alive and makes everything animated. Once you master keyframing, you're golden.

Big tip, if you wanna create similar things to popular youtuber edits and learn really quick, focus on 5-10 seconds of it (a edit you like), work out whats going on, list the effects you can see, color changes, 3d models, moving text then google these things and create your own style of that effect (it's ok if you can't get them all just ask someone). (i beg you don't just copy people verbatim)

Step 2. is not true, yes you can edit commentaries better then with AAE but Sony Vegas is pretty good at editing montages as well, on my profile there is a quick edit I made with just Sony Vegas.
You can almost get 1:1 the same plug-ins for Sony Vegas as you can for AAE.

what do you mean it's "not true"? this was based on a personal preference as I have known more people that like to edit commentaries with SV than AE. Sony Vegas is a lot harder to edit montages with than After Effects. Almost every editor I know uses AE for montages. The others only use SV because of the velocity syncing effect. the edit you did was not even close to the standards AE can put you at. so wherever you got the "not true" part i will never know as this was based on observations and personal preferences from me as I have been editing for approx. 5 years now.
