Hi all,

I'm eager to learn more about coding and how it can be used in different situations. So it crossed my mind the other day that I could create websites and sell them to customers.

How much they sell for will obviously depend on the professionalism of the website but I honestly have no idea what to price them at.

Also, how do you get the custom? I imagine TTG isn't the best place for advertisement.

If any of you design websites, I would love to hear how much you charge per website as it will help me further my knowledge and hopefully one day, help me become a website developer myself!

Depends really on the popularity of the site and advertisements.

It all depends on the site really what sort of design they want for their site to be. It's all about the features for the site they want and the money income and so on and so fourth. You can PM Telli if you wish and ask him and maybe he'll tell you some tips maybe god knows. Worth try with a ask.

Note: Telli is the site 'The Coder of the Site' He knows everything about us. He works for the goverment so be careful what you PM him. Jokes a side he's the programmer/site devoloper for this site. telli

It depends what you are making it for because if you were to make a high level website for a company you could make quite a lot from it but either way if you are working on your own then you could charge what you like but that would be agreed before you actually build anything

It is very hard to predict how much a web developer earns, it depends on too many factors such as your experience, whether you work for a company or if you're a freelancer, if you get paid per task or a monthly fee, the complexity of the task and depends how many hours you work.

You talked about creating websites and selling them to customers, you're probably better getting hired by a client and doing custom work for them rather than trying to sell a ready created website, unless you're creating templates to sell.

I'd probably suggest using a freelance website such as fiverr, freelancer or peopleperhour to create a portfolio of work and build up a good reputation.

With that being said, programming and web development isn't something you can pick up and do overnight, most developers have years of experience and in lots of cases have been doing this for decades. To be a good well rounded developer you'd need to be comfortable in many different languages. html, php and css are the main 3, less so php. Other languages you may want to learn are java, javascript, python and ruby to allow you to be more efficient and have a larger target base for clients requiring high level tasks to be completed.

If you're only just starting out, I'd highly suggest not starting with 'i'm going to create and sell websites' frame of mind, it'll take a lot of hard work, dedication and time to come anywhere close enough to create a website suitable to sell or good enough to start doing work for clients.

Let me know if you have any questions and I'll try my best to help.

This should give you a pretty good idea

That being said, you're only going to be designing a website for one company. You're not going to be making and selling websites to multiple clients, it just doesn't work like that. Your annual salary will depend on the company you work for the link above will give you the national average salaries for web developers as well as a look at the work environment and a job outlook.
