My video card has an 8 pin connector and a 6 pin connector for power supply plugs. I need to know if both plugs should be filled or just the 8 pins. I have the 8 pins filled but i dont think i have a connector for the 6. Tech support said i should get an adapter for the 6 pin connector but i dont know if she knew what she was talking about. I looked on the website and it says up to 8+6 pins. The card is ASUS.....STRIX-R9390-DC30C-8GD5-GAMING.

I dont want to power up the PC to find i should have plugged a wire into the 6 pins and break something. Please help!

you need both hooked to the card. if you don't have another 6 pin to put in the GPU, try to find a [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] connector and power it using that.

The 8-pin will give the card 150W, and it will get 75W from the PCIe slot. Technically you can just use the 8-pin, but it's not advised. You should be able to boot the system like that, but if you overclock or if the card gets put under load, you may do damage. You might have a 6+2 pin cable which will work, just plug the 6-pin in(as well as the 8-pin, obviously) and leave the +2 hanging. If you don't have any 6 or 6+2 pins, get an adapter, they're not expensive anyway.

I have one wire from the power supply but it has a plug then more wire and another plug... a few plugs but it's all on the same wire if that makes sense... I can use the 6 pin with the 2 pin and a different 6 pin without its 2 pin plugged in and that will work? even if they're both kindof on the same wire?... I can put up a picture if it will help

If you have two 6+2pin connectors, Plug one in (with the 2pin attached) in to the 8-pin slot, and the 6pin in to the 6pin slot with the 2pin not attached.

It would be better if you are able to upload a pic of the cables to see what is needing to be done.

Well i have pictures but i don't know how to upload them. The image button asks for a URL not an uploaded picture. If there is an easy way to get this done let me know and i'll do it. Thanks!

The bundle coming from my power supply looks like this. It's only one bundle but it has two sets of connectors on it. i have all 8 from one plug set and 6 from the other plugged in with the second +2 hanging. Is this good? or is that setup an "either or" type setup where you can use one of the pluts or the other one, but not both?
