Hey guys, not sure if this is the right topic but I will give it a go.

I built this computer in the summer with these parts

Anyways, I was thinking I am going to need an upgrade to the processor. Maybe an i7? Not too sure, but I just want some experienced peoples opinions

Thanks!

This doesn't help. He wants opinions on what? What he should upgrade to? Whether or not he should upgrade?

My bad, I assumed his link was to PC part picker or something.

I think he wants to know if an upgraded CPU will help his build much, or even what a CPU actually does.

Bit more information would be good.

What type of editing will you be doing?

Assuming video editing...

More than likely you will want to have a new CPU even though your current CPU is more than adequate but rendering times will be slow depending on the length of the content, resolution, frame rate and codec used.

You have the GPU power but that should only be used for timeline scrolling and faster preview times of content in the software used. If you care about the quality of the content in the final result, you'll want to put all of the rendering on the CPU as GPU rendering produces poor quality results at lower bit rates compared to CPU, not to mention there is more rendering settings available for CPU rendering compared to GPU rendering and that also depends on the codec used as well.

CPU Rendering > Slower but better quality final results.
GPU Rendering > Faster but poorer quality final results.

Most likely going to be starting with video editing, but might throw in a little photo editing here and there. I was wondering if it will be beneficial for me to upgrade my processor? You said the rendering times will be slow with my current setup, how slow would say a 5 minute video render? If I were to upgrade my CPU which should I upgrade to and would I have to upgrade my motherboard as well?
