Just tell them you don't want to play straight up, and if that doesn't work, then try it out for a bit, then tell them again.

I was forced by my parents to play American football, lets just say I ended up tearing every ligament in my right knee.

I would just get them told? I would then just start playing something else or find something you enjoy that keep u active. Shouldn't just do what pleases them, sure they will understand
