If there is already files on the computer that you want to get rid of and start fresh, reinstall the the OS.

Re-imaging the computer may be the thing to do but if it is just eaten up with malware than cleaning the computer is a more practical solution.

Most of the time there is leftovers of Malware on the system so if it's the case of a bunch of Malware then the best thing to do would be to wipe it and start again on a fresh OS instead of spending a copious amount of time trying to clean it up.

While I agree with you with some parts of what you said what if the user has important files he/she wishes to keep? Likeliness of what the user is infected with is well-known malware that is detected by a variety of tools. So a few scans should do the trick depending on how bad it is.

Anyway as I stated above - I have messaged you regarding connecting via Team Viewer to assist you with this.

They just bought it, I doubt they have anything that important. If they do i.e financials and its compromised with malware then they should lose it anyway and change their passwords and security information.

If the OP wants to scan they can use any good AV software along with HitmanPro, a second opinion malware scanner.
