Hi guys i just past my test (Im 20)

And im looking at getting my first car but the insurance is just stupidly high, For just something little like a little Ford Fiesta 1.2 the cheapest i can get quoted is over £2500 for the year.

Does anybody know the cheapest insurance to go with, it can be anything even 3rd party as long as it allows me to drive on the road legally i dont care as i can do most repairs/serviceing myself

Like I've said to others, we aren't Insurance reps, so our help won't be much use to you. The reason why the car may be expensive to insure is possibly due to there being a high left rate in your location, the security features on the vehicle and some other factors.

I would advise to look around for another car, try and get black box insurance, that's slowly becoming the only options for new drivers nowadays.

Just use a site like comparethemarket if you haven't already and fill in the details, it will list a bunch of them.

So much goes into it, location, trim level of the car, age, driving history, year of the car, etc. Your best bet is to find one you like, then call for quotes.

Yeah thanks for the info guys, Maybe its because the car i was looking at was a newish model.

I might just get a old model car like 1999 or somthing, im not really fussed about what car i get for the first year as long as it is a good runner and cheap.

Its stupid how much it costs for insurance in the UK. For a years insurance you could probably buy a cheap car 3x lol

old car wont be cheaper as the car might not have an alarm or immobiliser when looking for insurance go on gocompare and enter all information and put like you will do 6k miles a year and third party wont be cheaper than comprehensive sometimes and if you have private parking or garage or etc this will help and no modifications will help a lot hope I helped PM if any questions

It should be pretty cheap on the older small cars like a Fiesta, 106, Saxo.

Newer models tend to be cheaper on insurance compared to older cars, due to their emissions, safety ratings etc.

My first car was a 1.4 vauxhall astra which i got straight after i passed my test at the age of 20, this cost me £1,087.

The best thing you can do is use comparison sites, input all your information since this information highly affects your insurance price.

Around my area, newer drivers drive Vauxhall Corsas, but some of my friends and I drive Mini Coopers; we range around 1200 GBP, it all depends on where you are located and what the car is used for, my car sits on an open drive and when in school in a open car park, not much security. I do have a black box fitted, but I have no intention of being stupid behind the wheel, this can lower the cost by a bit, also try adding a female parent/carer; added both of my parents but after I removed my Dad from the insurance I took £200 off, which honestly surprised me.

I recommend looking at some Mini Coopers that range around the year 2002, for a 1.6 I think I got a good deal.

Not sure if this could effect you, but find a company that you want to use, but wait a few days after signing up, my friend insured his 2006 Corsa a few days after looking at quotes and the Saturday he wanted to insure on was a bit more expensive than insuring on the next Saturday.
Good luck man
