hey ttg users im new to pc building as I was a console peasent but was wondering should i buy a i7 4790k or some sort of i5 and would like to know the differences please

i just ordered my pc today i got the i5 over the i7 apparently there is not that big of difference and you save around £90

No, you shouldn't buy a 4790k, it makes no sense to go with older hardware.What will you be using the system for? It also depends on your budget. The difference between an i5 and an i7 is basically clock speeds, and the fact that the i7 has hyperthreading, whereas the i5 will not.

newer games are starting to utilize the extra threads an i7 will have, but usually an i5 will suffice. However some games now do say as a recommended to have an i7 3770.
It is entirely up to what you want out of a system though, if you're doing 3D work or multimedia production on the side then i would go for an i7.

There is, just not in some tasks.

In multithreaded operations the i7 will leap forward due to it's ability of Hyperthreading.

but it's up to OP to determine if he will ever use Hyperthreading.

Long story short, i7 will probably benefit you if you do any kind of editing or playing CPU intensive games, if you can afford it without sacrificing other components then why not, but at the end of the day it's ultimately up to you.
